He sounds young and dumb to me, mostly. If he stays like this, I agree with you, but I think he'll learn to shut up and play the game.

The production is there, and it's more impressive coming off that particular injury. I bet part of the reason he's going to Worlds is to show he can keep it it up.

He needs to learn how to deal with the media better for sure. At this point, take a page out of the hockey robot playbook.

By "play the game" I meant the media game, not hockey, but I can see why that was really unclear! He's pretty good at the actual game he's paid to play even if he's not so good at the off-ice one, lol.

Oh, haha, then we're in agreement! But yes definitely. I would rather players are more candid, but that's not gonna fly, so.

I'm very strongly anti hockey robot, but I kinda agree. I really didn't like his comments at the end of his season about his teammates not trying, and the rumors about him freaking out/throwing tantrums after losses weren't a good look either. I get that he probably had a frustrating season, but I'm starting to think he's kind of lucky Buffalo is apparently committed to having him as their franchise player no matter what. Other teams might not be so forgiving.

I'm a big fan of outspokenness, but a lot of his shtick seems like garden variety assholery instead, which he is welcome to tamp down.

A lot of his comments, having unfortunately watched most Sabres games, I kinda think... he isn't wrong. But he's probably wrong to say them to the media and maybe even his team, and he needs to learn that.

Yeah, I got the sense from the way Hockey Media reacted that most people actually agreed with him, which is why they didn't harp on it for longer. It's still unprofessional, especially if management (before they all got fired) was apparently trying to set him up to be the captain. Plenty of star players have played with shitty teams and managed to not complain about them to the press. I also don't trust that the Sabres roster will be dramatically different next season even with this shakeup, so I have a feeling that's gonna be a little awkward in October.

Though if management was trying to set that up, who leaked the story anyway?

Leaked what, that they wanted to make him captain? I thought Murray alluded to pretty strongly it in his exit interview. That could have been fans jumping to conclusions though.

No, sorry, the Bylsma fired/extension refusal thing.

Oh, gotcha. Who even knows. His agent went into damage control mode so fast to try and stop the "coach killer" thing, which imo makes it even funnier that EVERYBODY got fired the next morning. He's a front office killer!

I think Jack also doesn't help himself because he has EPIC RBF pretty much all the time.

Friedman speculated that it might have been Murray, but I have no clue why.

Hc@Noon speculated that Murray refused to fire Bylsma and that's why they both were fired.

That's pretty funny, since a lot of people figured Shero got fired for not firing Bylsma. What does Disco Dan have on people??

There was an interesting discussion on Hockey Central about whether Jack ever "forgave" Tim Murray for his comments about Eichel v. McDavid post draft also. Which is an avenue I hadn't considered.

Jack Eichel: evil mastermind with a vindictive streak was not an interpretation that had occurred to me, but I'd read it.
