#29 – Lay, Lie, or Laine?

This is the twenty-ninth post of Deke Dangle RPF Anon, a community for all your ice hockey anon meme needs.

THE RULES

How do you know? It's not as though either Boston or Toronto actually tried doing that.

You shouldn't build around a winger, basically. Build around a top flight defenseman and let that be your cornerstone, or build around a top center and fill in around him. Winger talent is easier to find than either of those things, so if you're starting from an elite winger and working backwards, you're going to have some trouble. Especially in the cap era.

I can't think of a Cup team in the cap era that was built around a winger. Even the best winger in the world can't make it work with all the talent he has around him. Usually, that top winger is the final piece in the puzzle, like Carter (he played wing in the Kings' first Cup run), Kessel, Horton, and so on.
