ESPN is absolutely gutting their hockey coverage today. So far they've laid off Joe McDonald, Scott Burnside and Pierre LeBrun (that I've seen.)

As an American it sucks because ESPN does a really good job with their coverage usually and yet again can give no shits about hockey.

Seems like it's basically only Melrose, Custance, and Pronman still there (so far) and those last two write a lot of Insider stuff rather than free.

I understand media stuff isn't easy these days, but losing so many good columnists on such a major American site can't be good for hockey.

I'm not sure it's just hockey - they've been losing tons of money because of declining cable viewership for a long time.

It's not just hockey but I'm pretty sure meme doesn't want to hear me wax poetic about Hannah Storm :)

Various articles are reporting about 100 people are being laid off today, I think many (most?) of them on-air talent.

SA That is, 100 people across ESPN coverage, not just in hockey.

Custance just announced today he was leaving. Sounds like it's his choice though and he might have some other job announcement coming.
