Thanks! (Under "Award Nominations" - no wonder I couldn't find it.) I definitely agree with you about how thin the tag seems to be. I did at least remember the porn actor AU, but those aren't really my thing and I didn't finish.

I want to second the other nonnie that the new 36k Matthews/Marner was pretty good, at least compared to the other stuff I've read. Wish fulfillment, as that nonnie said, but as an example of people coming to terms with their sexuality in a pretty welcoming environment, I liked it. There's a whole long scene with them smoking weed, though, so warnings to folks who aren't into that.

Speaking of the weed smoking scene, the idea of a dude who spent his teenage years in London, Ontario never having smoked a bowl before is hilarious to me.

bb's first bowl would probably have been about 13 if this was accurate?

i tend to assume that most nhl dudes are not marijuana virgins by the time they make the Show, although the gagner/tavares "shotgunning" kinkmeme fill that has jt's first time being after what sounds like a couple years up was a cute read and dude is intense enough about training and such that for him specifically it made sense. (fair warning: *i* didn't read it as dubcon, but i have seen at least one nonnie say they felt it was and on reread i can see why they might think so given that tavares isn't exactly expecting what he's going to feel like high and his inhibitions are definitely drug-lowered. it's tavares pov and he definitely has lots of *longtime* pre-existing feelings including nc-17 ones and sam specifically says he *didn't* offer to share the goodies expecting that result, so it didn't trip *my* dub-con triggers but i may have been biased by having a thing for shotgunning leading to genuine making out/more and nonnies who don't like impaired sex period might want to skip.)

the time i most clearly remember being SAY WHAT? about smoking up in fic is addandsubtract's long career-ending injury AU mcstrome one where mcjesus somehow manages to apparently make an ounce last a month despite narrative having him routinely get high to do his PT and such. under those circumstances i would expect that ounce to last roughly a week, and i also would have been expecting connor to be actively asking dstrome/his coyotes buds/etc. for a connect asap. (it isn't mentioned in-fic that i recall, but even if connor has a canadian 'green card', arizona dispensaries don't have *that* kind of reciprocity for non-residents although if he had one it does mean he could legally *possess* a couple ounces. new mexico has no reciprocity at all and utah doesn't do medical afaict, so if he was looking for quasi-legal colorado here we come.)

I liked tripleangst's "i got the mike (you got the mosh pit)" but it is *incredibly* au and I was essentially reading it as ATG. Also part of what I liked is Marner having a crush/flirting on social media with on Matt Martin, punk rock guitarist/frontman (I wouldn't have minded the alternate threesome ending, either ot3 or just for fun).

The longfic was definitely readable and while far from the best thing ever, it's noticeably better imo than much of the tag.

the brand-new soulbond one was readable (i think it helped that it's auston POV.) i don't think it's going to be a fandom classic but again, step above much of the tag. (i have trouble telling whether anything with them is actually a step above just readable, because i dislike rl marner, am pretty indifferent to rl matthews, and so much of it reads like baby's first fic that it further skews my perception.)

Readable might be the nicest thing you can say about that fic. I've read curtainfic with more conflict and emotion.
