Man, I can't articulate why, but deciding a players' voting habits matter enough to you to warrant an explicit warning but not enough for you to stop following him on social media and writing fic about them bothers me. Probably because it clashes with my all or nothing dissonance about how socially awful a lot of these guys are, but, ugh, it's a back click for me.

I saw that, too, and I thought it was pretty weird. I guess it's to say them from people dropping "Did you know this guy voted for Trump??" in the comments, but ugh.

I actually kind of appreciate it. I just see so much 'my soft smol cinnamon roll [players name] i'll fight anyone who speaks ill of you' it's kind of nice to see someone acknowledging that their fave is problematic (for lack of a better phrase) not defending them or excusing it just say 'hey, my fave has done these things and been part of this problematic system' and they're giving us the necessary information to make the best choice for us if we're the sort of fan who prefers to avoid Trump supporters. Like warning your guests that the chocolate chip cookies were made with milk, just in case one of them is vegan, sure it won't kill them to eat the cookie but if their serious about not consuming animal products they'd rather know then be surprised a month later.

I just don't see how, if someone cares that much about the political leanings of the people they read about, they can read anything in hockey fandom at all. Do they just ship, like, Johan Franzen/Ben Scrivens?

I think people get to care about what they care about. I just don't think it's should be on other people to care about the same things or get judged. I'm sure that author got negative comments in the past and that's why she included the warning this time.

Well now I ship them. Someone make it so!

I mean, yeah, it's good for the discussion-based part of fandom, like here, twitter, tumblr, etc., but it's kind of a harsh whiplash going in reading, "Hey, this person is an active participant in the worst political movement in recent American history, and worships in his rich white maleness. Enjoy him sucking his buddies' dick, lol!"
