The one where Leddy realizes he's a switch D/s-wise might have worked better for me if it hadn't been written for this. To me it feels like "okay, it *technically* qualifies by virtue of Saad's presence and the recipient appreciated it, but when it's Leddy POV and pretty much the entirety of the fic has them as Hawks still that doesn't really feel appropriate for a Jackets exchange".

OT but I was thinking about doing a Stars exchange last year and this was my problem. I couldn't figure out a good way to allow crossteam ships without also opening it up to, like, Sharp/Toews fic that was mostly about the Hawks.

It would be a little ambiguous, but you could do something like "This is a Stars exchange and we'd like stories to stick to that spirit. While you can write Sharp/Toews, your story should focus more on the Stars than the Hawks." And hope that it deters people from writing Hawks fic that mentions the Stars near the end.

Or you could always disallow cross team pairings and take the greater limitation as the tradeoff for ensuring 100% Stars fic.

Honestly, I'd love 100% Stars only fic, only people who have played for the Stars.

Sure, Hawks people could try to write Sharp/Oduya then, but that's that tradeoff, too. Might be the only case, though.

Personally, I have zero problem disallowing cross-team pairings in team-specific exchanges and challenges. I might feel differently if there were no exchanges where you could write them, but that isn't the case at all. I don't think it's incredibly likely that fans of other teams will jump onboard the Stars challenge as an excuse to write stuff that doesn't have much to do with the Stars, especially if the Stars don't have established cross-team pairings. But it doesn't have to be likely for the mod(s) to decide, "You know what? We just want to focus on current, former, and prospective Stars."

Of course, if the mod really wants cross-team pairings, that's their prerogative, and there's nothing wrong with it. These things are basically 100% according to mod whim, and I don't think you can choose wrongly. It's just what you want your exchange to be.

I don't see why that's a problem. I mean, how many people out there give even half a crap about Sharp/Toews or other random never-written Hawks/Stars pairings in the first place? I'd assume a Stars exchange would be overrun by Benn/Seguin before anything else, and if there were any crossteam ship that might poison the well it'd probably be Seguin/Kane, although even that's less likely this many years on from the lockout and with the general distaste for Kane these days. Just say it must be Stars-centric.

If you're concerned about Kane/Seguin specifically, it's easy enough to just ban Kane. Lots of exchanges do.
