#29 – Lay, Lie, or Laine?

Does anyone else feel a little let down so far? I feel like we were promised all this great trade movement and in the last entire month there's been two rights trades involving LA. and that's it. Obviously, the Pens and the Preds aren't going to be trading anyone yet, but what's the hold-up with the other teams? They've only got 16 days left to finalize their lists.

Teams generally don't do major deals until the SCF is over so I guess that's when stuff like whatever Anaheim will do happens, but in my mind at least most of the fun is going to be that June 18-21 when teams would see the exposed lists from other teams and make deals with Vegas around those players. Unless that got disallowed at some point and I missed it.

I know they don't usually until after the playoffs are over, but this year they've got it scheduled all the way until June 14. Doesn't seem like there's going to be much time for trading at that point.

I don't think there's anything preventing teams from asking Vegas to snipe specific players and then flip to them. That's an interesting concept I haven't heard discussed. I'm not sure there'd be anybody good enough for teams to bother doing that, though. I saw an interview recently with a guy who was part of the front office for San Jose when it started, and he said one of the most frustrating things about trades as an expansion team is that everyone expected you to be terrible and all they wanted to talk about getting from you was draft picks. No one wanted to talk about player trades.

I guess it's possible teams are talking, but I haven't seen any solid rumors besides that one about TVR and Kruger.
