I have an odd question for nonnies who are currently or who used to be in post-grad programs: do you feel as if you have more time to write/engage in fannish activities than you did in undergrad, or less time? I'm going back to school in the fall and am currently contemplating signing up for the HBB, but definitely don't want to if I'm going to have less free time than I currently think I might.

Less than I had in undergrad but more than I have now I'm a postdoc.

I had way more time when I was in grad school, but also by year 2 I knew I was escaping with a master's as fast as I possibly could, rather than sticking around for a PhD. Also I suspect it depends a lot on the discipline - mine wasn't one that involved much writing.

Mine will involve a lot of reading, but not a ton of writing until exam time. And I'm a fast reader, so I'm hopeful it won't be as bad as undergrad for me. It's hard to crowdsource an opinion from people who are in the same program I'm going into, because it varies wildly from "I read/studied for 60 hours a week, not including class time" to "I read/studied for like two hours each school day, none on Saturday, and six on Sunday" which is like, not helpful at all.

You could always sign up now and then drop if it turns out the workload is too much. But if you don't sign up now, you definitely won't be able to later (/ after the signup deadline), whatever your workload looks like.

For me I had heavy class loads my first year and very little time and more time my 2nd and 3rd when I was focused on just my thesis
