Yeah, sounds like a permanent move. I'm glad the player has this option, but I just find it so infuriating that the NHL lets their teams use LTIR this way time and again. The fact that Chris Pronger was inducted into the fucking Hall of Fame while dull on LTIR is absurd.

Agreed. I understand the league not wanting to take a hardline on career-ending injuries/medical conditions, but Hossa's contract was blatant circumvention from the moment it was signed. I feel for Hossa, but his condition doesn't change the fact that circumvention took place, and it's not great that the Blackhawks are so strongly incentivized to LTIR him and effectively end his career. But I agree with whoever in Twitter said no GM will protest this because they want the right to do the same if the case arises.

I don't disagree, but I also feel like the recapture rule was written poorly to begin with and they just never should have accepted the contracts in the first place if they hated them so much.

Glad the players get their money in any case.

While I don't think they should have inducted Pronger until after his contract ran out, I don't get why people get so upset at the concept. The problem is mostly resolved because that kind contact isn't allowed anymore and in the case of Hossa, Pronger etc. those are legitimate injuries that kept people from playing
