Re: Fic Discussion! - Seafoam
From: (Anonymous)even if it isn't true for that specific author, people have said that they're afraid to write things because of anon hate. that is a factual thing people have said. you don't think us going "yeah that doesn't help" to anyone who goes "but omg the hate you get here is nothing compared to the shit you'll get when you actually post it to tumblr or ao3!" is a negative thing.
a general rule of "don't tack on 'buts...' to a condemnation" just like you wouldn't tack a "but..." onto an apology seems like a solid rule of thumb. when you say "i'm sorry but blah blah" people feel like you didn't mean that apology. people feel the same way about a condemnation if you say "that was terrible, but blah blah".
Re: Fic Discussion! - Seafoam
From: (Anonymous)I'm talking about factual claims like, "Anon hate elsewhere is worse" and "Therefore anon hate elsewhere is much likelier to have caused someone to leave." Especially since in this particular case, we know cheesewithmy got anon asks - and therefore presumably flames - and we have no evidence that she ever came here.
Re: Fic Discussion! - Seafoam
From: (Anonymous)I'm the person who mentioned that I wouldn't post Mario/Sid, and jsyk, I definitely meant on tumblr, not here. 100%. I've gotten criticism on here, I've gotten normal tumblr hate, and I've gotten the super-powered trolling that is in this fandom, and the first two I can deal with in the way that the last has made me nope out of writing all together.

I think this is probably true, when you are changing the topic? In this case we have a problem. People feel attacked and are leaving fandom. If we want to fix the problem, if that's the goal, if that's what we want to support -- it's absolutely critical to say things about the variable causes of leaving fandom and feeling attacked. It's not even like we are switching people, for christ sake. We aren't saying, oh, but sally gets it so much worse, so stop crying jane. We are saying, jane gets it here, but jane probably is getting it way worse on tumblr and gift fic and ao3 comments, so maybe we should think about that too, if we want jane to keep writing stories for us.
