It's bad because someone got driven out of fandom for whatever reason. I don't think it'll get better, however, because if nothing else then people who want to cause wank know what general area is a soft spot now and it's completely in the rules, so. This will probably be the new normal for a while now that most of memes teams are out. Offseason wank is a thing that happens.

Yes. This is super atypical. This is, in fact, the most sustained wank we've ever had, though we've broken into weird fights about things like the Beatles before. Meme got bitten by a werewolf or something. It's not normally like this.

I have a feeling there might be some rubbernecking trolls here from FFA, because someone linked the Seafoam/CWM thread there a couple days ago, and a lot of the wank seems to be centred around stuff that you wouldn't need hockey knowledge to troll about. Good to know this is unusual!

I'm one of the nonnies who has been (fully genuinely, not in a trolly way, I swear) arguing on the side of those who don't like negative fic discussion, and I'm only now realizing how deep I got into all this and how circuitous it's all been. I'm not used to being a part of wank like this.

I'll admit, though, that part of my participation has been a way to procrastinate end-of-semester stuff (I'm in academia), and I have to wonder how many other students/teachers/academics are in a similar boat, where participating in wank suddenly makes sense to their testing/paper-writing/grading-addled brains.

I wouldn't have requested it because it's simiar to the fic my friend said they would write me. Obviously other people can do it but they weren't doing me any favors there by saving me effort.
