From: (Anonymous)This is honestly the worst past of having no namespace presence in this fandom beyond leaving kudos and the occasional comment - there seems to be a ton I miss out on.
But at the same time, namespace just leaves me so fucking exhausted these days that I can't bring myself to form one. I mean, to the point that I've basically abandoned my pseud of 20 years and am leaving all kudos/comments under a new account now. I can't handle namespace anymore.

From: (Anonymous)I'm the same, but honestly the thought of having to deal with friendslock is so much worse. I won't even follow locked twitters at this point. Not up to the kind of runaround clubhouse stuff just to get access to something I might not even like, written by people who would irritate me. The "tee-hee, I have something you don't" I'm seeing is also really weird and off-putting. That's never what locking fic was supposed to be about.

From: (Anonymous)I can't speak for other locked dw people but all the authors I follow are super chill. I honestly don't talk to them — one is in med school and their twitter is mostly them crying over homework — more than once a day besides commenting on their fic.
I know some people can be cliquish and it's offputting but fwiw mine has never felt like that. It reminds me a lot of mailing lists rather than the BNF driven hidden journals where you had to suck a persons dick with fear of being ostricized.
Nobody has to join any circle they don't want to. I was just saying that I thought this was a contained thing to my fee degrees of speration but I think it may be common.

From: (Anonymous)Between this and the author anon who said they dw flocked, I'm realizing that this is way more common than I thought. I'm friends with three people who flock — one is the Biz/Geno author, so hi, friend of friend! Some of their catalogues are full of epic longfic and one of my friends fills a loooooot of the kink meme prompts but doesn't xpost them to the meme.
Two of the ones I know don't post publically because they point-blank do not like the fandom and would rather deprive everyone than give the trolls and jerks any joy from reading their fics. The other one just writes fic for themselves and lets friends read it but isn't into the idea that because they posted it on the internet, everyone gets an opinion and to analyze their hobby writing.
Fic may be "slowing down" but maybe if it's because of the fannish climate? People post on tumblr because it's a) harder to find those fics and b) because people have lower expectations of tumblrfic when it comes to pacing and betaing. Maybe there are also a lot of people who keep flocked writing journals for the same reasons to an even more controlled degree?

From: (Anonymous)It's more like DW is their personal website. We're mostly friends on twitter or tumblr but our longdead DWs are used to comment on the fics they post in their fic-only journals. If AO3 let you have a privacy level that was more than "anyone with an account" I'm sure they'd post there. Two of them I knew before Tumblr was around and one was added via one of those rec-a-friend/friending memes. I know some people make friends through twitter or tumblr but mu twitter is locked and I'm not into blindly making friends anyway.
I know that some people have pw locked tumblrs for their fics and you have to send them an ask to get the pw and thus access.

I think you're right tbh. Also can we talk about their fucking 600k Sid/Geno coming out fic becuase OH MY GOD I NEVER WANT IT TO END and also that fucking cliffhanger in the last update is fucking killing me.
(Are we maybe the two who always wind up talking in the comments??? Because we should be namespace pals too!!!)

Jesus fuck that fic is so amazing. I always feel terribly guilty when people talk about what they want in coming out fic because that fic has all of it and so much more with how it dealt with injuries and honestly the media in general. Sometimes it feels like I'm reading the autobiography of a player and then I remember it's this beast of a fic?? But I totallu agree that the latest cliffhanger was the fucking devil.
