Do you not understand what a metaphor is?

Do you? What both those people deployed was not a metaphor. It was a comparison. They said that work can be particularly disturbing when you know that the person behind the flawed work shares the work's flaw - Woody Allen molests children; a racist writer is racist. That's why they made those specific comparisons. Otherwise, they could have used some other Woody Allen movie; they specifically chose one that evokes his personal history.

People absolutely dislike HE partly because Imp is an asshole and has an existing fannish reputation. I am by no means denying that. (I also did not bring up Imp's personal history; I don't think it's relevant and I'm not sure why you're bringing it up yourself since you apparently don't like it being mentioned.) I think the further analogy made is weird. I am willing to accept that it might not have been intentional but it is very, very weird.

NA

You're the only person who didn't understand what was obviously meant...

I think we're dealing with an intentionally obtuse Imp warrior. Strange, I haven't seen one of those around in ages.

I don't get how it's defending imp to say that it's wrong to imply that she has a problem with domestic abuse and I don't consider myself to be a fan of hers. The implications of the comments were weird and fucked-up. Crying about my reading comprehension and impugning my good faith isn't going to alter that.

Nobody implied that, though. You just inferred it, incorrectly. You seem very sensitive to imp slights, thus the warrior accusation.

"[I]t's similar to the difference between an author writing about race in good faith but maybe getting it a bit wrong, and an author who turns out to be a racist in RL and leaves you feeling like you want a shower."

"This means what I think it means because I say so, regardless of the way everyone else is interpreting it and the way it was intended." Just keep repeating that until you're blue in the face, nonny. Maybe you'll get somewhere.

I feel equally as baffled at this conversation as you do. How the hell are you interpreting "People hate HE because it's like reading racist fic by a racist" as implying that they dislike HE because impertinence is an asshole? The way to say that would have been to say "It's like reading racist fic by someone you find out is a real asshole".
