THE RULES

I knew Phelps was trying to break records but I had know idea whose records he was trying to break. I do have a habit of just kind of ignoring information that I don't care about though.

I was doing both club and high school competitive swimming in the US during the Athens, Beijing, and London olympics, and had never heard of Mark Spitz outside of those, but I can confirm that his name was mentioned in tandem with Phelps, about on par with how we hear McDavid-Crosby. But still, I'd say only half of my teammates knew who he was, even though we watched the swimming events religiously.
