Have you ever become interested in a team/specific players just because you watched them play and/or because of the way they interacted on ice?


Just wondering how the games themselves influence fandom versus off-ice content (interviews, behind the scenes videos, social media presence, other not strictly hockey related content). I remember seeing a post on Tumblr about how behind the scenes content "humanizes the enemy" and I'm wondering if it applies to the RPF side of things too.

It tends to be more the off ice stuff that gets me interested in a team or players for fic purposes, but I like fic that reflects specific on ice events too.

I just don't think I can see enough about a player's personality just while they are playing to get enough out of it. But, sometimes specific things make me look up off ice stuff. So it's a bit of both.

I tend to be the opposite, actually. If I don't like a guy's style of play or maybe certain on-ice incidents I've seen, then it doesn't matter how wonderful his BTS personality is, I find myself put off from wanting to read about him.

This is easy and fine when it's someone like Milan Lucic or Matt Cooke who aren't part of popular pairings, but gets a little more complicated when it's a fandom darling like Andrew Shaw or PK Subban.
