There is no universe where evil!Holmgren gives a fuck about them being mfeo (although the ionthesparrow ficlet where they're demons they probably could have *made* him give a fuck if they'd wanted to stay in Philly badly enough). There's that one Cup wish one by doctor_denmark where they were legally married and *still* got traded separately to prove it.

(It's like there also is no universe where Don Cherry isn't all about "good Ontario boys" and talking about "pinko commie Russians and soft Europeans" and creative fabric choices, even the ones where he's aggressively matchmaking for those good Ontario boys.)

Yeah, shipping Richards/Carter was so much less sad before this past year.

NA There was a something* out of Columbus about a year and a half ago that claimed Holmgren had offered both Carter and Richards together to Columbus, so it could be written in that he gave a bit of a fuck, but not enough that Columbus could afford them.

* I don't know how credible it was - not a Columbus nonny - so don't want to characterize it.

That's probably why evil!holmgrem chose to trade them. They had to disclose intention for becoming fives and there was a narrow window to trade them/get them away without being stuck with the two of them for their long contracts.
