Re: Player Lives and Random Gossip

NA in the grand scheme of problematic behavior, a mother jokingly hashtagging a photo of her kid with her kid's good friend who happens to be a girl with #firstlove doesn't seem worth getting upset about tbh

Na in this particular case, I think it's all lighthearted and fun. But a lot of other times it does make me squirm and even as a child it used to make me vaguely uncomfortable because I was like "why can't I just play with the boys, I'm seven years old"

This is really, really not the hill I'm going to die on, particularly not for babies I will never meet, and I agree with you that it's no where near the worst thing. But it's is worth thinking about, and addressing anyway.

Shrug. It's not the worst thing ever, but if they were both girls the mother would probably never even think to hashtag it with that. It's an example of heterosexism. There's nothing wrong with pointing that out.

Re: Player Lives and Random Gossip

No one's calling for the mother's head over it, people were just saying they aren't fond of it. Or of the heterosexist party a small part of fandom took it.

This does make me want even more the non-heterosexist take on this, though -- a next-generation pairing dealing with their fathers' legacies AND being a same-sex couple in the NHL. Have there ever been NHL players who basically grew up together because their fathers were teammates?

I used to want to see more done with this in Suter/Parise fic, though I'd probably feel uncomfortable writing about their relationships with their dads now, considering the sadness of the past year. And obviously Suter's dad didn't even play in the NHL, so it's a few steps to the left of the "sons of teammates" idea already.

NA that's the version I want the most! If one of the Selanne kids makes the NHL maybe they could be paired with Max Domi? Mostly I can only think of examples of families that are close where they aren't in the NHL like the fact that Wayne Gretzky is god father to Juri Karri's twins.

I tried to google this and ended up on this Wikipedia page but I'm too tired to figure out more connections. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_family_relations_in_the_NHL

There's already been a player with a cool linage; he played goal for the Boston Bruins, just like his dad, and he has his name on the Stanley cup, just like his mom (he won with Tampa, she's part of the avs front office). Guess you don't always need mpreg for that type of stuff! https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Grahame

Aww, I love the idea of one of the Selanne kids with Max Domi! I don't know if Eemil is still playing (I guess he just graduated high school? Google doesn't tell me anything else) but Eetu just made the roster of the USHL Madison Capitols, I believe, so he may still have a shot.

(And thanks for the John Grahame trivia, that's really neat!)
