Oh god, I wasn't even thinking about Buffalo. The press would be absurd and inescapable. She'd be seeing his name literally everywhere. I really, really hope that doesn't happen.

I think Buffalo is the likeliest because Kane has complete control over where he goes and if Buffalo came calling, I bet that's the one he would pick.

Please tell me Buffalo probably can't/won't offer. Lie to me if you have to.

It just makes too much sense to me, from a hockey perspective. It's horrifying but it is what it is. Buffalo has both futures and present assets to spend on Kane, they have the cap space right now, and he's arguably the most accomplished athlete to ever come out of Buffalo. They could want to stick a hometown elite talent next to their franchise center for the rest of their careers.

Anon, I said "lie to me", not "tell me the logical but disturbing truth".

Ah I just made a comment asking if Buffalo could afford him because I was hoping there'd be at least something that would prevent Kane from going to Buffalo :( Shit, I still really hope this doesn't happen.

The thing I would consider is that they had to give up a (not unreasonable) number of assets to get O'Reilly and Evander Kane, and they may not want to deplete the prospect pool for a player who, if he's playing, would be 29/30 when Buffalo realistically starts to contend.

From a PR perspective as well I think Buffalo would feel like it was a smaller risk in terms of fanbase outrage since he's a hometown boy.

Kane isn't going to go to Buffalo because McGinn already has 88 //logic

Not to mention, you have a fanbase already willing to rally around Kane now with extra incentive to rally around Kane.

I really want to say Buffalo would never, but then I remembered Richie Incognito and IK Enemkpali... eugh. I appreciate them "taking a risk" on EKane, but PKane is a line I really hope they don't cross.

On the bright side, while Buffalo may have the cap space for the next few seasons, a lot of our younger core guys (Girgensons, Risto, Reino, Eich, a couple Amerks graduating to one-way contracts) will be getting major pay raises fairly soon, and PKane's cap hit would get in the way of that. Hopefully management maintains the foundation they built instead of selling it all for the quick fix they've been avoiding.

If it helps, Yerdon (Buffalo-based writer) doesn't see Buffalo as one of the teams at all. I think people are just speculating Buffalo purely because Kane is from there and they have cap space.
