From: (Anonymous)(When it comes to sex crimes in practice, this is often done when the offender is 16 or 17 because NY charged everyone as an adult at 16. The kid is sentenced to "probation" and then remanded to family court as a young person "in need of supervision" and then in effect sentenced to a residential treatment program. I used to work with those programs, which is why I know this.)
