And being able to say things like "there's no way Ovi could or would turn down playing with children and Putin for charity" is part of what allows me to construct my world where Ovi goes along with Putin because it makes things better for him, his family, and Russians in general and I can pretend he doesn't actively support a near-fascist dictator. But my sensible mind knows that the best possible scenario is probably some combo of both "it's politically expedient" and "Ovi supports him."

From: (Anonymous)Yeah, Malkin is very apolitical, has repeatedly told Russian media he doesn't vote, and only pops up around Putin when he has to. Ovechkin has posted pro-Putin and anti-Ukraine propaganda at the very least.

From: (Anonymous)Ovi also expresses that he's not political (and shouldn't be asked political questions). I'm pretty sure he tried to say posing for propaganda wasn't political; he's just pro protecting children or whatever.
I honestly don't think there's much point in trying to decide whether Ovi or Geno scores better at aligning with meme's Putin feelings, when all that's really clear is that they are both politically/PR savvy enough to let us pretend they maybe don't while acknowledging they probably do. (I don't follow anything Geno but do think Ovi probably likes Putin. His personal views on social issues, I have no idea and don't really want to find out.)

From: (Anonymous)I agree with you. I think Ovi is extremely politically and PR savvy and has done an excellent job allowing me to construct my world so that I may still love him. Which was probably his entire intention.

From: (Anonymous)If Putin offers you his phone number, are you going to turn it down? Even if you don't like the guy's politics or think he's leading your country down dangerous paths? That doesn't seem wise.
But, of course, the more likely response is that Ovi is totally cool with Putin. I just have to ignore that to continue loving Ovi the way I do.
