Definitely regretting checking reddit now. How can people legitimately think that was the only thing he could say?? Apparently expecting someone to not say they support an alleged rapist is asking too much.

Very honestly, because hockey culture promotes team over individual, always. It doesn't matter if they save puppies and babies or if they're a rapist or a murderer. In hockey, you must forget everything about the individual in order to mesh into the amalgam that is team.

I upvoted/downvoted everyone but it makes no difference of course.

I did the same. It may not put them in the negatives, but it made me feel better to see the little controversial symbol next to their comments. Means there's significant disagreement at least.

I tried to do the same but I only got partway through the comments before I started feeling like I wanted to puke. :/

Man, fuck this whole thing.

I had to quit reddit for a few days when the megathreads were still going and am going to have to pass on it today. It just makes me nauseated in a "yeah, this is still how most people think" way, and in the meantime they're just so proud of their ~reasoned approach~ and so sure they're right about everything. And then you remember it's mostly young men over there and it just gets worse.

Yeah, I can usually engage over there about a lot of things, but with this... knowing so many guys still think this way and believe others should too, it gets hard to handle.

At this moment, the top Reddit comments are better than that. A lot of people saying Toews should not have said something that implied support, and this is a bad look. Also a lot of people arguing that "innocent until proven guilty" should have nothing to do with Toews comments and he should have left it up to the legal system.

Perhaps there is some hope. (Lower down in the comments, it's still a stanning shitshow, including from female Hawks fans, clinging desperately to "innocent until proven guilty.")
