Does anyone know what the procedure would be with domestic violence charges when the victim is in the USA on their abusers visa? I know she might return to Russia with him even if she wasn't deported as well, but is there any procedure that would allow her to stay.

There's this: http://www.uscis.gov/humanitarian/battered-spouse-children-parents , but it only seems to apply to the spouses of permanent residents, and I think hockey players have work visas, not green cards.

The reddit thread on Voynov's detention by ICE mentioned this topic and discussed the possibilities and options for her, including citing this Washington Post article: http://www.washingtonpost.com/local/for-battered-immigrant-women-fear-of-deportation-becomes-abusers-weapon/2012/01/30/gIQAZCx3zQ_story.html

The whole reddit discussion is here: https://www.reddit.com/r/hockey/comments/3jjqk1/kingss_slava_voynov_goes_from_jail_to_immigration/cuptz6v

TL;DR there are several ways she could stay on her own visa, but that all presumes that she wants to.

Found this by googling: http://www.immigrationpolicy.org/just-facts/violence-against-women-act-vawa-provides-protections-immigrant-women-and-victims-crime

If she had helped with the investigation, she would be eligible for a U-visa, which lasts four years (+ option to apply for a green card after). I think it's pretty shitty that her lack of cooperation bars her from that; a lot of battered spouses refuse to testify against their abusers. I don't see why it should keep her from being safe from him, but I am not a lawmaker, so. :/

As she did not, she might be eligible for either "self-petitioning" or cancellation of removal under VAWA, but in either case she'd probably have to fight pretty hard.
