Re: general RPF fandom discussion

Well, I don't think that's unreasonable! Since the move to Twitter/Tumblr I feel like it's gotten a lot more normal in fandom to react to things right away, stream of consciousness, etc. But it's not actually bad or dishonest or ill advised to react to things with caution, to hold back on actually posting because you know your feelings don't need to be broadcast right that moment. I have all kinds of unfair, petty, shitty, sometimes even misogynistic feelings that I deal with internally. The reason I do that is largely because I know they're born of my immediate situation and aren't something I'd always want to stand by, you know?

The funny thing is I did make up my mind right away, and made a lot of public statements. The emotional backlash didn't hit for a couple of weeks, and then I felt like I had to have my crisis in private because I didn't want to look like a hypocrite (I wasn't changing my position, just sad about it). So yes, something to be said for not airing one's positions immediately, even if they are ones you ultimately believe in. ;)
