This is the eleventh post of Deke Dangle RPF Anon, a community for all your ice hockey anon meme needs.

THE RULES

I frequently enjoy ladyjanelly's work, and infrequently visit tumblr, so thank you for alerting me to the presence of this!

And I'm still reserving judgment on "thick chunk of dick." I'll see when I get to chapter 8!

I'm digging all the mixed messages on this. I think it worked because of Jamie's perspective and his feelings about his own dick. He's obviously not very forgiving because he sees it as a short-coming. Ergo, to the narrator, it's not a very sexy word. But, for me, the reader, who is totally relating to Tyler here and wanting Jamie to just whip it out already, it sounds really fucking good.

I might be projecting, because I'm the anon above who said I loved this, but in context? I love it even more.

I've now read past chapter 8, and that phrase worked wonderfully. It perfectly conveyed Jamie's feelings about his body, given his disconnection from his own desires and himself, yet, as you said, the reader just wants him to whip it out so Tyler can get some. And then the use of that term made Tyler's response so satisfying and...dare I say for the middle of a sex scene with all kinds of stuff hanging over it...romantic.

Yeah, I'm definitely sensing some projecting here. He literally pulls out a chunk of dick! Like it's a chunk of cheese! Frankly, I think it's giving ladyjanelly way too much credit to insist she meant that one oddly constructed line to have as many nuances as you and the ayrt are reading into it, but even if that's what she meant, she still could have come up with a phrase that read more as "I'm insecure about a trait someone else finds hot" and less as "I just tore off a hunk of my dick".

I think you're literally pulling out a chunk of text and judging it based on that. I don't discount that, entirely without context, it's weird. I read it in the context of the piece of writing it was a part of, and that was my interpretation. I don't care whether you agree with me, I was simply following up on my reserved judgment from earlier.

I don't know ladyjanelly at all aside from having liked her fics. I've never once interacted with her in any online space that I'm aware of. But I am a person who appreciates writers who convey a lot in a few words and use arresting language to do so. That's why I wanted to know the context instantly from seeing that one phrase excerpted here (and would have wanted to know it regardless of the writer). It turned out I wasn't disappointed.
