Re: Fic Discussion- blood pressure

Possibly I am thinking too much about worldbuilding that is clearly designed to facilitate caretaking and cuddling. I was also trying to figure out how "compelled to feed you iron-rich things" has worked throughout history. Did vampires drag back mammoth corpses to their adoring cavemen? Are there bad vampire cooks who just give their humans a jar of blackstrap molassas and a spoon? Is what you're compelled to cook dependent on culture?

Clearly I'm overthinking it too, so you're not alone there.

Maybe it's more of a compulsion to feed them stuff the vampire thinks is good for them? So knowing about blood iron levels and iron-rich food, a vampire might try to feed their human a lot of stuff they thought contained a lot of iron, even if it ended up being stuff that wasn't too accessible (like the spinach a nonny mentioned earlier). It makes more sense to me that this is a caretaking compulsion instead of really being about the iron.

Even in our world, cravings (such as in pregnancy or diseases like pica) don't match either what people need or what people know about nutrition, so vampire/human care instincts are actually a little bettet.

The thing is, vampires are also compelled to consume iron themselves (Tom eating all of Alex and Nicky's raw eggs, never mind that eggs don't actually have that much and there are bioavailability issues???), so they must be able to tell what foods contain iron. So I think the spinach thing is simply a mistake or they just always serve it with orange juice or something.
