NA

Yeah if they get hurt doing non-hockey stuff they don't get paid.

Re: General Fandom Discussion

From: (Anonymous)
Yeah, not just even if they hurt. They legally need permission from the team in order to do any "risky" sports. Even if they don't get injured doing it, it still constitutes a breech of contract.

Who the hell is signing off on Malkin's off season activities, then?

Re: General Fandom Discussion

From: (Anonymous)
Yeah, some players clearly just don't care. Didn't a few guys go skiing over a break last year? I guarantee downhill skiing is not an approved sport.

Re: General Fandom Discussion

Does he really do anything risky though? I mean, on the one hand, if any team is unlucky enough to have a player injured due to a shark or lion bite, it'd be the Penguins. But it's not as risky to me as something like parkour or skiing.

There were those water jet boots where he was flying through the air, and I'd swear I've seen him on a quad bike.

Re: General Fandom Discussion

Quad bikes are nit exactly dangerous.

Re: General Fandom Discussion

From: (Anonymous)
Actually, some kinds of quad bikes are prone to rollover, particularly on rough terrain. And, like motorcycles, there's very little protection for a rider in the event of an accident.

Dude four wheeling is dangerous as hell those things are heavy and can get up there speed wise. I live just outside the GTA and I personally know one person who was fucking decapitated four wheeling (one of my friends parents friends years ago) and two people who had spinal injuries that they were lucky to recover fully from from four wheeling, and four people who have broken bones? You take them out in rough dangerous terrain and go as fast as you can, that's the whole point of four wheeling it's pretty damn dangerous.

Re: General Fandom Discussion

+1, I grew up in rural North Carolina and know far too many people that were injured four wheeling.

da

I know someone who became paralyzed in one arm, and I know a family whose youngest child was decapitated on one of them. You can operate four wheelers safely, but they are just not used in that way at all.

How does one get decapitated four wheeling? /Scandinavian nonnie who had to look up four wheeling

DA

Well, anytime machinery rolls over on you, you're going to risk serious injury, and you could get pinned or pushed against anything.

ah, I didn't consider it rolling over. Geez, what a way to go.

The person I know lost control, hit the gas instead of the brake, and drove it under a trailer. It was really bad.

Re: General Fandom Discussion

From: (Anonymous)
i was the first anon to mention decapitation. guy had been drinking, and was tearing through a field, not really paying attention and drove through a fence, was decapitated by a wire it was horrifying

AYRT

I guess the ones I've been using have been pretty stable. I've been doing it since I was five (we had a much smaller one then) and I've never had an accident, though I've had a few incidents with two wheeler dirt bikes.

They really are. Big cause of death and serious injury among farmers and farming children in my heavily-farming nation.

Hunting wild boar?

Re: General Fandom Discussion

From: (Anonymous)
But there are other low-injury risk sports besides golf.

Re: General Fandom Discussion

From: (Anonymous)
Claude Giroux is embarrassingly obsessed with bowling, for example.

Re: General Fandom Discussion

From: (Anonymous)
Hey! There is nothing embarrassing about bowling. (Though I'm honestly shocked he hasn't injured himself with bowling yet, all things considered.)

Re: General Fandom Discussion

Well, now you've jinxed it. Clearly he'll drop a ball on his foot and break it next week.

http://www.scientificamerican.com/article/leg-head-injuries-frequent-at-olympics/

This has a graphic of injuries by Olympic sport, so it doesn't include golf, but it does have some weird things in it. Like ski jumping apparently causes fewer injuries than table tennis. (Ice hockey is unsurprisingly in the top ten.)

And if they really want to avoid injury, apparently they should be sailing or doing the biathlon.

I wonder if Sid and Shea had to get permission before their wild ping pong excursions at the Olympics.
