It's been three years, why would he bring it up again now? It's way more likely that apologizing would just bring more attention to the tweets, and then pessimistic fans (like this meme!) would just say he's saving face instead of taking it in good faith.

I said dumb shit when I was his age, too, but it's not the type of thing that makes you guilt-ridden enough to publicly apologize. I just, ya kno, stopped being a shit. He has as well, at least publicly.

I meant "is there any evidence he apologized at any point after making those comments?", not "did he issue an apology yesterday?".

And if I publicly said stupid shit, yes I would publicly apologize. That he is less willing to say stupid shit now that there is a spotlight on him doesn't really say anything to me about whether he's grown as a person.

You're either a liar or a better person than most, but I still think very very very very very few people would apologize for previously having problematique views.

Or maybe the increasing use of twitter and similar mediums for communication means more interactions are made public? If I say horrible shit directly to someone on twitter and feel bad about it, I'm going to apologize to them on twitter.

Yeah, I'm thanking TPTB every single day that there was no social media (at least as we know it now with FB, IG, Snapchat and Twitter) when I was 10-20 years old, because I would have posted so terrible things - definitely not homophobic, but stuff I wouldn't really want anyone to see now. Stupid things, somehow closed-minded things, just idiotic, embarrassing things.

Not to say that he isn't a bigoted idiot anymore, just that you just don't necessarily think these things at that age. At all. And with the surrounding homophobic, more or less misogynistic culture...

But yeah, this soured Marner for me.
