From: (Anonymous)There are so many sources of untapped kink and idfic in written SF. Le Guin's world in Left Hand of Darkness, with the people going becoming fertile and acquiring a gender once a month, is another.
Re: Fandom Venting
From: (Anonymous)I read Oceanic last night and really enjoyed it, so thanks for the rec! I'll have to look into Left Hand of Darkness next. :D
Re: Fandom Venting
From: (Anonymous)Hooray! I should warn you that LHOD is like 50% politics as seen through obnoxious would-be ambassador and 50% forming deep bonds by spending several months escaping across an ice field. The weird biological backdrop of the world is mostly just that, backdrop. It's a really fantastic novel and I love it dearly, but it's not really overtly kinky. However, Le Guin wrote a porny short story set in the same world called "Coming of Age in Karhide" which does hit a lot of those spots, and it's in her The Birthday of the World and Other Stories collection.
Honestly Le Guin is great across the board, though. The sedoretu is her creation, and that same collection has several stories that feature sedoretu. And that same collection also has a story about a planet where nearly all the children born are women, and how that affects things for both genders.
Re: Fandom Venting
From: (Anonymous)I enjoy when it's just a backdrop/part of the world building as well as the more straight-up kink fic, so it still sounds relevant to my interests. Thanks for the heads up, though! Le Guin is one of those authors whose work I've been meaning to delve into forever, but I've never gotten around to it. This gives me the perfect motivation to actually get around to it. :D
