Re: Fandom Venting

From: (Anonymous)
Personally I like the fills because I like het and also because it assures me that not everybody around here is walking around with a tinfoil hat on about Sid's sexuality. Why do you take exception to that? If people are happy about something, where's the skin off your nose?

Also, there is actually a PK/Carey/Angela fic that is mad popular. So try again.

Ayrt

*shrug* I like the fills too and it's not the author giving off this vibe. Sometimes I feel like people aren't talking about 'I would like to see this rare pairing' but more 'people who write het in this slash-centric fandom are special for that reason alone'. But, like I said, that's probably me being oversensitive to the tone.

Is the PK/Carey/Angela fic the one where PK and Carey get outed or is it a different one? Do you have a link if it's not the that one?

walking around with a tinfoil hat on about Sid's sexuality

Okaaaaay then.

Re: Fandom Venting

From: (Anonymous)
But why can't people who write good, readable het be special for that reason alone? In a fandom where there is a dearth of it? Mind you, I think the fills have been good for more reasons than that, but no one has to justify their love of het or reasons for their love of fic to you, just because you seem to have some kind of inexplicable grudgewank about people liking het.

Yes, it's that one.

Did you get here yesterday? Less than a month ago we discussed on meme how some of the most popular Pens bloggers are awful for many reasons, their misogynistic refusal to believe Kathy exists being one of them.

Re: Fandom Venting

From: (Anonymous)
tbf I'm sure they believe Kathy exists. Just not that Sid would want the beautiful swimsuit model. Who would want that? Yuck.

Re: Fandom Venting

From: (Anonymous)
I laughed.

Sid would never date female models. Sid clearly hates his peers and the culture within the League he plays for. Sid's response to questions about homophobia in the League have been excellent!!!1

God, what a mess.

He's perhaps my 4th favorite and I hate about 80% of fandom "interpretations" of him.

Re: Fandom Venting

From: (Anonymous)
Oh, goodie, the old "slash is misogynistic!" "het is homophobic!" debate is brewing. That always ends well.

Re: Fandom Venting

I never said slash in and of itself is misogynistic. Thinking your fave would never stoop to fucking a woman is. Is that in dispute?

Re: Fandom Venting

From: (Anonymous)
Not everyone who declines to call Kathy Sid's girlfriend is a tinhatter at all, much less one for misogynistic reasons. There have always been lots of people on meme who just find that level of social stalking involved inappropriate without a more public acknowledgement that they are dating.

Re: Fandom Venting

From: (Anonymous)
DA I think the tone in the comments that bugs the OP is that suggestion that the fills are good, not because they are good but that their existence is some kind of rebuttal to Kathy deniers.

I think, perhaps, based on your comment on tinhats is that this might be a view you share. But not everyone feels that fic should exist to score points in an argument that is pretty irrelevant to many people who enjoy fic, without believing it has any relevance to the real life circumstances of the players.

Enjoying Sid fic isn't a sign that people believe he is with whoever any more than someone enjoying an oviposition fic means they actually believe that John Tavares is knocking up Dylan Larkin.

Re: Fandom Venting

From: (Anonymous)
Completely irrelevant to the conversation but I think it was actually Dylan Strome, nonny.

Although mpreg between John Tavares and Dylan Larkin is intriguing.

Re: Fandom Venting

From: (Anonymous)
AYRT - Damn, you are right, I need more coffee. And possible someone to write Dylan Larkin getting knocked up or him knocking someone up, either works.

Never apologise for spawning great ideas :D

Has there been rookie/vet mpreg prompts on the sin bin with the vet being the one knocked up? Because I have a sudden urge to fill something like that.

It would be more helpful if I knew anything about the Red Wings but the idea is now in my head.

Okay. And not everyone cares that you don't care? Do you see how this could get circular very fast.

Re: Fandom Venting

From: (Anonymous)
+1 Exactly, and the only person in the thread who is attempting to impose their own preferences on others, or at least complaining about how other people's preferences don't match their own which she can tell via tone~~ apparently, is the OP.

Re: Fandom Venting

From: (Anonymous)
OP here.

I couldn't resist replying.

What? Where did you get that? I don't care about whether someone prefers something else to what I like (or, you know, the exact same thing I like) but I came here to vent that people trying to hold liking that thing means they're at a higher standard than liking all the other things.

I could vent about certain people saying bottom!Sid is superior because it's the one true characterisation, therefore making it better than top!Sid, despite liking bottom!Sid myself, but I won't, partly because I've already had that vent and partly because it hasn't come up recently.

What I was trying to say is that I don't care what people like but I do find it annoying when someone reading/writing fic for a certain pairing talk about it like they're superior for liking it because it's non-problematic/slash/rare/not-slash/not abusive etc.

NA who could not give less of a shit who Sidney Crosby sticks his dick into in RL or fiction agrees with everything in this comment.

Fic written to score points (SJ, shipping, bottom/top wank, ur tinhat is dumb, wtfever kind of points) against other fans is inevitably boring. In this case, if the fic is great and not written for that purpose but the commenters are using it to score points, they're not doing their pairing or their thoughts on supposed misogynist tinhats any good.

It's not a good look. But I know, I know, nobody cares what I or anyone else thinks so you all continue to do you.

Re: Fandom Venting

From: (Anonymous)
But no one can say that the fillers are writing out of spite? Or that the commenters are commenting out of spite?* It's just the bitter OP's sixth sense talking. So this is all moot.

*I commented on a Sid/Kathy fill and it wasn't to spite tinhatters. I liked the particular fill and I like the pairing.

Re: Fandom Venting

From: (Anonymous)
You're right. Nobody cares what you think.

Re: Fandom Venting

From: (Anonymous)
na

Completely agreed. And there's a lot of proving the OP's point in this thread, so whatever.

Re: Fandom Venting

From: (Anonymous)
One person saying that they dislike tinhatters *in addition to* liking the pairing for itself?

Oh yes, so much proving of the OP's point that obviously no one truly likes Sid/Kathy, everyone is just pretending to spite the crazy tinhatters.

Get out of here.

Re: Fandom Venting

From: (Anonymous)
What even is OP's point? I can't tell, and I can't ask them since they tucked their tail between their legs hours ago and ran away. Don't know what you're still doing here.

From what I can gather, they feel Sid/Kathy commenters seem congratulatory because it's het and it upsets them to see people enjoying het? I fail to understand how that's being "proved" in this thread. But please. Continue on this transparent path you've set for yourself.

Re: Fandom Venting

+1

Honestly, the sheer amount of comments to someone essentially saying "some comments struck me as self-congratulatory in nature" is pretty wtf. Oh no, someone in a fandom venting thread said that some comments sounded a little bit to them like some shippers thought they were superior to others for bullshit reasons! That's definitely something that has to be argued because it's so uncommon and a huge insult to everyone who ships that thing!

Re: Fandom Venting

From: (Anonymous)
I don't think people need to justify liking het, especially good het? I like (good) het myself, but it was just with this particular pairing I found the discussion about it more... I can't think of the word, congratulatory? Patting themselves on the back for liking the pairing because it's different from the norm? If people started to say the same thing for liking, I don't know, Drouin/Mackinnon, I would find it the same way.

That one I already have bookmarked, so that's good.

It felt like more than a month but okay. I was referring to the fact I see more tinfoil hats over Tyler Seguin's sexuality than over Sidney Crosby's.

Re: Fandom Venting

From: (Anonymous)
I mean, I think this fandom has a pretty decent amount of het for something where there are literally no women in the primary source (if you consider the NHL the primary source instead of hockey as a whole). So it's not really groundbreaking in this fandom, and definitely isn't in the grand scheme of lit.
