Re: Kinkmeme Discussion
From: (Anonymous)I don't see how the fact that he's cheated on Nathalie IRL (with women presumably) has anything to do with whether a prompt asking him to cheat on him in a fictional way with a man is misogynist or not.
Cool, I was just giving an example of one particular prompt that I remembered specifically.
Re: Kinkmeme Discussion
From: (Anonymous)Re: Kinkmeme Discussion
From: (Anonymous)No, but by that logic, the OP who prompted on kinkmeme wanted to explore infidelity as an aspect of Malkin's character. How the male character is being treated (he's a RL cheater so it's ok to portray him as a cheater, there's no knowledge of him having ever cheated so it's not fair to him to portray him that way) has nothing to do with the argument of how the female character is being treated. (Because Nathalie's been cheated on once, no portrayal of her in Mario/other characters fic can be misogynist?)
A prompter might just want to be true to that character or find it interesting to write it happening again fictionally. These wants don't necessitate misogyny.
I mean, yes, exactly. Just like the OP of the prompt just finds it interesting to consider infidelity/a Malkin/Crosby/RL girlfriend love triangle interesting fictionally. As I already said, I don't think these wants necessarily constitute misogyny. I just think that Mario's RL cheating has nothing to do with the debate of whether it is misogynist or not.
Re: Kinkmeme Discussion
From: (Anonymous)Also, this is one prompt. Yes, I would agree it is misogynistic but either I didn't see it or I didn't care about Mario (I don't) or I thought it's in line with his shady character. I imagine others felt the same and that's why no backlash. Doesn't make this prompt we're discussing now any less objectionable.
Re: Kinkmeme Discussion
From: (Anonymous)This is exactly my point. People don't care about Mario and think this is in line with his shady character. People care about Geno and don't think infidelity is part of his character. All this has nothing to do with the treatment of RL women.
I'm not talking about how objectionable the prompt is or isn't. I'm talking about where I think the wanky reaction is coming from besides just a genuine concern about misogyny (and your comment is super telling in this regard).
I already said that I don't have links. If you think my impressions of what I've seen on meme are wrong, that's totally valid. You don't need to demand receipts from me that I've already said don't have as a way to derail what else I'm saying.

From: (Anonymous)Re: Kinkmeme Discussion
From: (Anonymous)It just proves that your assertion that there are "plenty" of times where this type of side-eyeing does not occur is bullshit. You don't need to lie as a way to derail the central fact: that the prompt should have been called out for both misogyny and creepiness and the only people doing so are the ones you can psychically "tell" were ungenuine.

From: (Anonymous)Re: Kinkmeme Discussion
From: (Anonymous)I can't provide receipts because I don't track or bookmark anything on the kinkmeme that doesn't interest me. I haven't proven my point, but my failure to do it hasn't proven me wrong. I don't know why you are bringing "crazy Penguins fandom" into it unless you're a crazy defensive Pens fan.
Honestly, the fact that I did bring up one example and you defended it the way you did actually does prove exactly the point I was trying to make. Your point is based on men -- one reviled by fandom, one loved by fandom -- and has nothing to do with RL women. I don't need to psychically tell anything about anyone to understand that some things were said that are dubious. I also didn't say that all the accusations of misogyny and creepiness were ungenuine -- I think that some of them were, and it was the most wrong-headed of them that created the most wank.
