It might be interesting for people to post their favorite fic of the month. I think mine is the Ekblad/Gudbranson one.

I look forward to this year's media guide telling us what his daughter's name is.

Can you download it as an epub or mobi? I had the same problem reading long fic on my iPhone, and the super easy fix was to go to the download link in the mobile browser and download the fic as an epub, which gives you a link that'll automatically download and open in iBooks. Hopefully it's similarly easy on other phones if you don't have an iPhone.

Did they include general likes/dislikes in their sign-up/dear author (if they wrote one)? If they did just take inspiration from that, and next time write you're not comfortable writing RL family/SOs in your sign-up. You could always contact the mod, too, and see if you can work something out-- they might be able to contact your recipient and see if they can think of a prompt without those aspects you aren't comfortable writing.

Just checked and, yup, the Connor McDavid gangbang fic was posted this month. So, that one.

Aw shoot, I was so excited to check this out but it has one of my biggest DNWs :(

Glad it was good though! Maybe the author (or someone) will write some more Gudbranson fic

He looks like he's balding (or has a severe case of fivehead) in every picture I've ever seen of him. Poor kid.

Based on skimming the first couple pages of "alex galchenyuk domestic violence" google results I think you're correct the actual media didn't go there. I guess all the victim-blaming made me assume somebody doubled down on the awful. (Even the reddit thread doesn't go there, although SO FUCKING MUCH "he cheated, she hit him, how is that domestic abuse?" and "why was he partying at 8 am after a loss?" bullshit.)

CW from hell on all links and "abandon all hope ye who enter here" if you read the comment sections.

http://montrealgazette.com/news/local-news/girlfriend-of-montreal-canadiens-player-alex-galchenyuk-arrested-in-domestic-violence-case-report

How the fuck does a *local* news article misspell Devante's first name in this? (otherwise pretty unobjectionable.)

http://www.thehockeynews.com/blog/canadiens-alex-galchenyuk-addresses-domestic-violence-incident/

“One thing we can’t forget is that those are young kids,” Therrien said. “They’re going to learn from it. They’re human beings. Yes, we want them to be role models, we want them to be perfect, we want them to perform, you know? But at the end of the day, we can’t forget they’re kids. And, at times, all kids make some mistakes. The most important thing is that they learn from that.” sounds pretty much like victim-blaming to me.

http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nhl-puck-daddy/alex-galchenyuk-apologizes-for--distraction--when-he-didn-t-have-to-212534245.html

Galchenyuk's situation became like many victims of IPV when he was asked by a reporter if he should expect consequences for his role in what happened. He replied with, "No. It’s an incident in my personal life and that’s what it is."

Take a second to think about how this story would have been covered had he been the one to punch his girlfriend in the face. Why is he not afforded the same respect as the victim instead of the perpetrator?

Also, is it just me or does this paragraph make any other nonnies cringe?
This isn't to say Galchenyuk is a saint. He knows the truth of the situation he put himself in. "He was asking for it" is not a defense. He is still an (alleged) victim of domestic violence.

(same article, Jen Neale wrote it for whatever that's worth.)

Okay NOW I know why I thought that. There's not a source given, but this article *does* specifically mention that some Montreal media did accuse Galchenyuk of cheating with Smith-Pelly.

I definitely recall furor about Montreal media making what sounded like an insinuation about Galcenyuk and DSP, though -- I don't think it was in an article, it was in a question that was asked him (either in a press conference or media scrum), and both the question and answer were reported on twitter.

Re: Gossip/Player's Lives.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-01 06:12 pm (UTC)(link)
I remember thinking at the time that people were too quick to jump on the idea that the question was insinuating some sort of gay affair. Fandom circles tend to be extra sensitive to that issue.

But men crash at each others' places all the time and I don't think it's something that would really occur to the media. The way I read that question instead is they were asking if the reason DSP and Galchenyuk were sleeping in the same room was because of some sort of heavy intoxication, drug-wise.

(Anonymous) 2016-06-01 06:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Didn't Kane become a waiter in that one at the end? But overall I agree. They both had jobs that required them to sleep with other people and then they didn't even talk about it before quitting. It was dumb.

Re: Hockey Media

Pretty sure they don't care about the tournament much itself, but do care about winning. Russia's blueline needs all the help it can get. It's their one big weakness.

Oh, thanks, I forgot I could do that. I'll put it in my kindle app.

I have been reading it out of curiosity, and so far finding it enjoyable enough to subscribe. I have to agree with "wtf is up with McNamara?" though.

Awww...for McNamara having Dylan's back in the latest part.
