No, actually it does need to be justified. Calling out random stupid tweets individually is no better than spam. We'd be here all night and all week and all month if people started doing that. It also would be incredibly weird and maks you wonder if the OP has a fixation on this person or otherwise knows them irl.

I at least thought they were calling out the Seth Rorabaugh for his stupidity, not the tweeter-on-the-street, and I still hope that was the case.

+ a million to this entire comment

If a media person says something dumb? Sure, make fun of that. But boy do I not care about dumb random tweets. Have you guys never heard "Don't read the comments"? Twitter is an entire platform of them.

Re: Universal Meme Truths

From: (Anonymous)
I didn't say most people don't care. I said for most people they are just there. As opposed to using them to express their true inner selves. Like, read it again.

It's also absurdly reductive of you to equate any and all forms about caring about eyebrows with using them to express your true inner self or bust, but whatevs.

I don't think Gary Bettman is awful. I just think making money is his top priority.

Re: Universal Meme Truths

From: (Anonymous)
I don't know what you're talking about. I absolutely use my eyebrows to express my bust.

Re: Universal Meme Truths

You're tearing this family apart, nonny.

What is this "joke" you speak of? I'm quite certain that our fine and upstanding meme does not contain any of these mysterious "jokes."

You're the one who brought up the true inner self thing? Eyebrows are important. Whether you think that importance equates to expression is up to you. I'm going to say they're important to keep sweat out of my eyes and also to prevent me from looking strange without eyebrows.

Re: Universal Meme Truths

No jokes. Only outrage. Endless outrage.

Re: Universal Meme Truths

From: (Anonymous)
But is that the only way you show you care?

Re: Universal Meme Truths

From: (Anonymous)
This thread is definitely a universal truth of meme.

Re: Universal Meme Truths

I like some of his ideas (expanding into new markets -yay) and dislike others (fans don't care about stats -wtf). Overall, I think he's a mostly competent, though far from perfect, commissioner and think hockey could do a lot worse.

Re: Universal Meme Truths

From: (Anonymous)
Your eyebrows don't do that to be important. They do that because they are there.

Q.E.D.

Not to mention there have been entire generations of people who chose to look strange without eyebrows.

Re: Universal Meme Truths

From: (Anonymous)
I feel like OP knew exactly what they were doing.

Re: Universal Meme Truths

From: (Anonymous)
You seem to be assuming some kind of sentience on the part of eyebrows that I for one am uncomfortable with.

Re: Universal Meme Truths

From: (Anonymous)
You know, I've read sentient!hair fic, but never sentient!eyebrow fic.

Re: Universal Meme Truths

From: (Anonymous)
You know, Peter Capaldi's eyebrows were nominated for Yuletide a couple years ago, and I think they did get at least one fic.

OP

No, meme sometimes manages to have fun with threads that have wank potential and I was hoping that would happen here, but I was clearly being a little too optimistic. The memeweather has been tending towards heavy pedantry for the last few days, I should have known better. You live, you learn, I suppose.

Re: Hockey Media

Speaking for myself, it sounds incredibly painful and likely to cause injury in a way that hits too close to real life. Unlike, say, oviposition, which is not something you read people being criminally sentenced for in the paper.

Re: Hockey Media

From: (Anonymous)
I do wish there was more dirty bad wrong involving players being expected to sweeten up refs.

Re: Hockey Media

From: (Anonymous)
Yeah, I liked the one Sid/Geno fic about it, but not enough to get over my general "ouch!" reaction.

Re: Hockey Media

From: (Anonymous)
Also really really unhygienic.

Re: Hockey Media

From: (Anonymous)
Yeah, that's a lot of hard plastic angles. At least baseball bats are rounded!

Re: Hockey Media

From: (Anonymous)
Too ouch. Also, don't you know what guys do to their sticks? All sorts of weird sawing off or sanding or using a blowtorch to do something to it.

Re: Hockey Media

From: (Anonymous)
Especially with all the footage we have of refs getting handsy with players! Hugs, arms around shoulders, hands on smalls of backs and asses....!
