I quite like "condesplaining."

I think the idea is that Edmonton has so far not demonstrated a willingness to arrange a trade for Hall/Nugent-Hopkins/Yakupov/Draisaitl/McDavid, so maybe they will trade the pick. Because it's not like they need all of those guys *and* Tkachuk, the fourth overall pick. But I think the rumors are still being optimistic as to the likelihood of a trade.

The more I hear about him, the more convinced I am that they'll draft him.

The arranged marriage fic would be everything. Part of me want the classic : "they hooked up and didn't know of the contract that is discovered at the end of the fic" but I'm more intrigued by the scenario where they know?

In a world where hockey players tend to have arranged marriage contracts planned for after their career. Like people believe that because they're focused on playing, they won't make good choice regarding their life partner. The contract are a way to give them something to look for when they retire and not end up lost and depressed, etc..

So Larkin and Ekblad know they'll be married some day, but they never really thought to much of it, and then they meet at the game, and sparks fly, and wham bam, they get caught in the thrill of fucking that person who's kind of destined to them? And even if they had sex with others before, there is a weird dirty feeling with this unplanned, pre-marital fuck.

My NHL app just told me that Tomas Hertl missed practice today because he's got a little "something."

... a little bun in the oven? a little tentacle popping? a little rut coming on? a little magic curse? a little wish baby/wish cactus to take care of?

ayrt: not in my experience where it's way more often than not just another way to say, hey you two, you're getting way to caught up in your own conversation about something no one else here cares for, and it's cute but we still exist, no sexual or romantic implications at all?

Wings? That's my guess.

Thanks for the anecdote, but, assuming you're not just missing the subtext, that is still not the common usage.

The Pens really surprised me with just how good that firing of their coach worked out for them, as well as their trades and call-ups. They're just such a joy to watch these playoffs.

Well what I meant is, that in my experience, the joking type of usage is way more common than the one that actually insinuates sexual/romantic attraction, and my main takeaway here is that it obviously does vastly differ between different groups of people.

How indicative is ECHL success of prospect pool quality though? I can see a close correlation with the AHL, but how many NHL players actually come through the ECHL? It happens rarely enough that there's a list of those who made it on the Nailers' wikipedia page. Maybe the Pens are an exception, I read that they have more players from college hockey than many other teams, but afaik the only one on the current roster who played in Wheeling is Tom Kuhnhackl.

There is very little connection between the two leagues.

Again, your experience has given you a skewed view of what the vast majority of people mean, which is presumably why are there are only two confused OEAs in this thread while everyone else it pretty solid with the possibility of jokes and the insinuation of sexual or romantic attraction co-existing.

NA

In room by yourselves you can fuck. That's why joke is.

Re: Fandom Goggles

(Anonymous) 2016-06-03 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
There is an entire subthread basically calling what you're disagreeing with so obvious and unnecessary that saying it was condescending, so you might want to dial down the aggro claims that everyone agrees with you except two confused anons.

I'm sorry I was wrong, then, and tried to argue a stupid point.

Re: Random Hockey Thread

(Anonymous) 2016-06-03 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Aside from goalies (who are often sent down to the ECHL if you have a couple of decent prospects, so they can both get starts), usually people are only sent down to the ECHL if they are having trouble making it in the AHL and the coach either wants to get rid of them or is trying to give them a lot of minutes to improve without screwing up the other prospects' development, so it's not a good sign for them, and I'd say there's probably less than five players on each team who are prospects. Usually ECHL rosters are filled out with people who couldn't get signed with NHL teams and are trying to keep their careers alive and get noticed. They sign directly with the the ECHL team. So, it's not a huge indicator of your prospect pool depth, but it can still tell you things.

Allen!nonny here. It's the first time this has ever happened in ECHL history.

Also, literally, do not read into it. There is one Sharks prospect down here. One. (Okay, we used to have Chris Crane, too.) But yeah, we have Jevpalovs.

It's. Not really anything. Allen's roster for our cup runs has been pretty much the same. No one was calling the Sharks prospect pool deep because we threepeated, though. Because it doesn't mean anything.

da

I'm upthread saying I liked them. Twitter seems mixed.

Piggybacking on this, are there any podcasts with women who talk about the Pens in a sports context (as opposed to an RPF context)?

I was all in for a tentacle budding, but then I got to the wish cactus and that was even better.

They've just been really fun. As someone who always liked the designated speedster or two on the roster when we had them, this is like my dream hockey.

Re: Fandom Venting

(Anonymous) 2016-06-04 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
Not sure sure if this belong in a vent.

I general enjoy watching hockey, doesn't matter who's playing, but I've been very annoyed at seeing the Pens in the final. Leading me to not watch much of the SCF. To see the rating makes me wonder if people share the same views. Or NHL is bad at marketing itself.

Also, Sharks aren't an exciting teams compare to their NBA counterparts.

Which as a fan of hockey this makes me worry about the future of this sport.

Re: Fandom Venting

(Anonymous) 2016-06-04 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
Eh, I think the low ratings are because the NHL is bad at marketing itself, PIT and SJ aren't big market teams, and yeah, they have to compete with the NBA finals with two teams and two stars that'll draw a lot of casual watchers, besides the fact that basketball is just a more popular sport in the US.

That said, I highly doubt the low ratings have anything to do with the fact that people find the Pens annoying. I think both the Pens and Sharks are great teams to watch for casual or new fans, and this is a great matchup in that regard.
