Re: Fandom Venting

Although there's one fucking video/gifset I've been looking for for a while now- of Ryan Getzlaf's big butt (I'm talking Crosby level big).
I believe it was like a NHLPA players own recorded video type video, with the ducks on a flight, and a few of them where teasing Corey Perry for sleeping all the time. Later there was a shot of Getzlaf changing into his gameday suit before landing. Just putting it out there in case it jogs anyone's memory.

I can't speak for meme as a whole, but all the hockey podcasts I listen to are hobby podcasts. I don't think any of them even have a patreon, let alone a sponser. The male run ones still seem to manage basics like speaking directly into their microphones, posting regularly, and editing. I mean, these are some pretty bare minimum standards to manage - they don't require corporate support.

Re: Fandom Venting

The most important thing for podcasters to have is give a shit, and that's free.

On a separate and arguably less serious vent, I really wish the gif makers of fandom would lay off the brightening slider in general. Like, I saw the original video, it's not like they have to cover up low definition. They are, however, succeeding in making their white subject fade into the white background.

Very serious question. How does one block an author on A03?

It's bad enough having to deal with the stalking posts on Tumblr.

Re: Fic discussion

From: (Anonymous)
Why does it say this on top: "Sorry, we couldn't find the chapter you were looking for."?

What stalking posts? I just block everyone on tumblr who posts imagines lol. So I guess I, too, would be interested in knowing how to block them on ao3...

Re: Fic discussion

I use bookmarks and just add -"username" to the search within results box.

Re: Fic discussion

Download greasyfork/tampermonkey, download this script -> https://greasyfork.org/en/scripts/3579-ao3-savio , add author to authorBlacklist.

-author in Search within results also works.

I literally just figured this out within the past hour in order to block certain individuals who keep posting new chapters of their epic badfics with 37,000 tags on them. I can scroll past a lot but I was getting more and more irritated each time I scrolled past all those tags.

Re: Fic discussion

From: (Anonymous)
DA I think I might have to do this too, why are the most prolific authors writing stuff I have no interest in.

That nonny: you're probably absolutely right, again sorry for arguing a stupid point. I'm just not the brightest person and should know better by now /not meant to be taken in a passive aggressive way, it's just true. Sorry :/

Let's say a player has a PTO for a minor league team - what are those like? Is it running drills? Participating in scrimmages? Interviews for goodness of fit with the team? I found some videos about tryout camps, but I'm more interested in individual tryouts.

Re: Ask Meme

From: (Anonymous)
PTO or ATO? Those work slightly differently.

Re: Ask Meme

From: (Anonymous)
Looks like a tryout to land a standard player contract in, say, the ECHL. (Let's say for ~reasons~ a failed NHLer is looking more at ECHL than AHL.) So, what would that look like?

Re: Ask Meme

From: (Anonymous)
Players just fully join the team, so it's whatever players would normally be doing, except I'd imagine with an edge of anxiety and being on your extra best behavior. Maybe more meetings with the brass to see how things are going, probably less media stuff (unless the player's already well-known), but just generally normal hockey player things.

Re: Ask Meme

From: (Anonymous)
I don't think the ECHL does PTOs.

Re: Ask Meme

From: (Anonymous)
The scenario is more like a job interview - a player who is better known looking at various ECHL teams before the season. So, a practice drop-in would make the most sense?

Re: Ask Meme

From: (Anonymous)
Yes, that's why I revised to standard player contract, sorry. What I mean is a tryout/interview for someone who's already been a pro, not someone who's an amateur coming out of college.

Re: Ask Meme

From: (Anonymous)
Oh, that's not really something they'd have to sign them to, then. A training or development camp would make more sense, and then you can base the activities on that. Some teams put out a lot of info on their camp schedules, so that'd be a start.

na

If a former-NHLer wants to go the ECHL, the process would basically go: *calls agent* "Hey, I still want to play."

"Sure, you want to me to look around Europe?"

"Maybe the ECHL."

"You sure?"

And basically, his agent would find him a job.

More usually, PTOs (the professional try out for someone who has already been a pro) is for ECHLers trying out for AHL or NHL teams. Or AHL to other AHL team/NHL teams.

Per @bobgrove91 on Twitter, grand master of random Pens stats:

Pens have won 1 of their last 13 GP at SAP Center, a 5-1 win this past Dec. 1. Was their first win @ SJ in 18 years, 2 months ...and that night Johnston was behind bench and Pens' lineup included Scuderi, Warsofsky, Dupuis, Bennett, Perron, Zatkoff and Plotnikov.

So, not very predictive. :D

Re: Ask Meme

From: (Anonymous)
Cool, thanks. That does make the most sense. (They don't have stuff posted, so I'll try to make some stuff up that at least goes with that idea.)

Re: Ask Meme

From: (Anonymous)
Thanks! That was also somewhat my thinking. Do you think framing it as more like a job interview where the player is picking the team and looking for goodness of fit would make sense? Like he goes and does a quick scrimmage/looks at facilities/talks with the team's front office, rather than anything more formal? Or having him do a 'drop in' on a practice?
