SA, hit post too soon.

...but that is really, really far for your player to have fallen, if they were once an NHLer/NHL prospect.

Also, it looks like there is some sort of tryout agreement for ECHL training camps (it's just not called an ATO/PTO). I might go with that.

And the Game 5, Allen @ Wheeling, which started at 6.35 CST.

WOW THE ICE IS SO BAD, so many players falling down that the radio commentary is all about it.

Re: Ask Meme

Yeah, it's more that they're cooling their heels/recovering from injury and wanting to still play some hockey while figuring out the rest of what to do with themselves, not going to the AHL or Europe to continue their career.

The resale prices on these Sharks-Pens tickets are crazypants. Someone on Twitter said half an hour ago the cheapest seat in the house was $900.

The sharks swimming around on the ice are awesome.

They really are. That is an awesome projection.

It's nuts, especially with the amount of tickets that went to resale almost right away. I'm a Pens fan in the Bay Area, so I was super excited about this SCF matchup, but there's no way I was gonna be able to afford that. Can't imagine how frustrating that must be for the Sharks fanbase.

Yeah, that must really suck for the local faithful. :(

That was not the team or the player I expected to score from the point.

Lol, right? I mean, I like Lovejoy because he seems like a good dude, but ... that was a shot about his general talent level.

Re: Ask Meme

I know some players (Mike Richards, a guy at my D1 school) practice with local Juniors teams during a lot time out. Playing in lower leagues probably wouldn't be very glamorous or therapeutic.

Lovejoy is such a mixed bag. He seems like a good dude (I think he had some good comments circa the Shaw slur incident), he's a great quote, but otoh he almost sticked his own goaltender in the eye.

What is happening? Why is Costello going off the ice???

Equipment issue. What? This is a nail-bitey game.

I know the Pens 4th line was on for the goal against, but it still feels like they're getting better offensive zone time than any of the other Pens lines. This is really confusing to me, because aren't they up against San Jose's top line most of the time?

What is holding? What is interference? I don't know. You don't know. The refs definitely don't know.

In the spirit of a pleasant game thread for all, I bring you this comment circa 2011 from Martin Jones about his relationship with Jeff Zatkoff when they were teammates with the Manchester Monarchs.

MM: What’s it been like to live with the guy you’re battling for the job?

MJ: I think one of the great things about our tandem is we’re genuinely rooting for each other. We want each other to play well. It makes for a much better working environment when you’re both pulling for each other. Whoever is playing is playing and the other guy knows that he’s going to get his chance to play. We’re pulling on the same end of the rope here.

Yeah, in most situations I'd say angling for a training camp invite or PTO or whatever is what you do when you've decided you're healthy and ready to make a serious comeback (or a serious first go of it), not when you're noodling around wondering if this hockey thing is still for you. Just because it's a few steps below the NHL doesn't make it less professional or serious or grueling (in fact, as you point out, it's probably more grueling). Without knowing more about that anon's scenario, I'd agree that something lower-stress that they do at first just to keep in shape but then unexpectedly helps them ~fall back in love with the game~ would probably be more appropriate. Maybe they decide to go back to school and get roped into joining a college (if Canadian) or club hockey team?

Awwwwww.

These playoffs have conspired me to ship Zatkoff with, like, everyone? I did not expect this result from the playoffs.

"It's the Arseneau show!" 2-1 Allen. There's a little corner section of traveling Americans fans in red, and they are celebrating hard.

This car commercial NBCSN keeps playing where the guy is "coming out" as liking a different kind of car than dad is making me want to stab someone.

The commercial for beard dye makes me want to respond with pics of Joe Thornton - like Joe Thornton doesn't need your dye to be virile and neither to I!

But yes, sigh, agreed.
