Re: Fic discussion

It felt kind of a like a loose end to me that although they discovered what it was after they realized it wasn't a revenge curse for Gretzky's trade, they didn't discover why it was. How did it get started? If it's bound to Rexall, why not just build a new arena (which the Oilers are doing in real life anyway)? Now that it's unbound, will it disappear or float about until it gets tied to some other poor team?

I was fine with how the Taylor & Jordan stuff went. Mostly because I think they deserve to have their own separate fic. Any closure scenes would have felt wrong in Connor's POV to me, I guess, instead of their own.

The decamping is probably less about Holtby and more about the team mascot having marched with him.

I thought the fic did mention building a new arena after that, err, demon (?) left, with that whole "a new beginning" thing. I thought it was tied to Rexall and the Oilers as a team in general, but I wasn't super clear on it either.

Not knowing who is being talked about defeats the purpose of a nickname.

Wasn't there something about it being from the hockey gods since they didn't like the Gretzky trade? Personally, I think a level of uncertainty is central to horror-type stories, and I can't really fault a teenager who came in for the last act for not being an omniscient narrator.

The fic did mention that they were building Rogers! I meant that I didn't understand why moving hadn't been tried in the past, not after the whole thing was over. I thought it was just tied to the arena, but maybe it was tied to the team too, which makes me wonder if a name change would help. Maybe that's the real reason teams get moved to new cities.

Oh right, got you! Maybe it was just because they didn't understand the "curse", lol I'm willing to handwave it.

Also that sounds like a really good (spin off) plot idea, I'd love to read that! I always love to see more creepy things and that would be so neat either "historically" or as a speculative future fic~.

Somewhere in San Jose, Hertl's heart is breaking. He's stuck at home injured while his linemates are out flirting with the latest model.

One of the most frustrating thing is investing so much emotion on a relationship only to have the author break them up. Why?! More annoying when the relationship they break is with an omc. You finally convince me and you do this.

Everything in fandom venting is a first world problem.

That's offensive on multiple levels.

This is so frustrating. It feels like the Sharks have been playing their worst hockey since the beginning of the playoffs and I just don't understand why. You're finally here, guys! Make a good showing of it!

(It's not just me, right? They've looked off since Game 1.)

Context. The rest of the conversation should clue you in. If someone was just talking about Zdeno Chara and then said, "Bergy", you immediately think Bergeron.

I felt like it should have ended when Dylan confirmed that they were successful, leaving whatever happens next to the reader's imagination. I really did enjoy the story, though.

I actually found some parts of this pretty creepy, which I liked because I haven't had an experience like that while reading fic in a while. I also liked Marner and Strome working together as a spell casting/breaking team, that's not something I remember seeing before in fic and it worked well for their relationship, I think.

I know this is always the go-to excuse for sudden underperforming, but I think the Sharks are playing hurt when they were pretty lucky in terms of injuries before this round. In addition to Hertl (obviously), Pavelski has looked like he's playing hurt at points too, and the combo of the two of them being out or ineffective is definitely not helping them. And I think the Pens are probably way too fast for them to be able to play effective offense. I don't know what they're like in the regular season, but the Lightning are considered one of the fastest teams in the league and we all know how that went.

It's definitely not just you nonnie...

Going into the series, I thought they had a really great chance at winning the whole thing, given the way they had been playing as of late. I know both their past two series went the full 7, but especially in their games against the Blues, their scoring power really showed.

I'm still keeping my fingers crossed that they can turn it around...I've really grown to like their team throughout the playoffs

I don't think meme will ever be satisfied by an ending, lol.

That was the part that got to me too! I've read other curse fic in this fandom but this one most effectively conveyed the feeling of something watching/stalking you and there not being anything you can do to prevent it or stop it.

Friedman surmised on Hockey Central that Pavelski may be hurt since he's been falling down a lot?? And apparently in weird and unexpected ways. I have not watched the Sharks enough to be familiar with his style to know if that's true or if he's just having Scott Hartnell problems.

Also something something something forechecking and the cycle and the Pens D making it harder for the Sharks to get to their game with their speed and shot blocking. #analysis

He was also caught on camera clearly limping on the bench at the end of one of the games. If he's not hurt then I'm a Pens fan ;)

Well now I asked Twitter and Twitter seems to think it's a hand injury since he hasn't been shooting/not redirecting and apparently holding his stick weird.

*shrugs* body injury. Obviously.

lol, at least the consensus is that Something Isn't Right. and no matter what part of his body it is it's probably not helping the Sharks do the thing.
