Just because the Stars don't have an NHL level Brandon, it hasn't stopped the national announcers from calling some of them Brandon.

As someone who's had a vent picked to death, this. I pretty much won't bother posting to this thread ever again, since it probably kicked up more wank than if I'd just posted to namespace.

Oh, and I've seen vents here I deeply disagreed with. I scrolled on by instead of telling the OP they were an idiot or trying to argue with them because, you know, vent thread.

Puck Daddy theorizes all the Sharks' travel miles might also be catching up to them:
http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nhl-puck-daddy/has-exhaustion-caught-up-to-the-san-jose-sharks-202531979.html

I found the comment from Hitchcock interesting as well:
After the Sharks beat the Blues in the Western Conference Final, St. Louis coach Ken Hitchcock said a lot of his team’s mistakes were based on exhaustion. This was because St. Louis had played two straight seven-game series prior in the playoffs.

“We made some tired decisions late in games, late in periods, late in shifts that we hadn't made,” he said. “But I think if you're going to look at one aspect, it's our inability to close off those first two series and get the rest that San Jose got by closing off L.A. so early.”

I read an article that said the Conn Smythe Trophy winner is selected by a pool of 18 voters. Does anyone know how they're chosen?

That is, how are the voters chosen? I realized I wasn't very clear there. :P

I know that it's how this thread has always been used, but it doesn't mean it's not tedious and pointless. Yelling at someone is not going to make them stop being annoyed about something! It probably only makes it worse!

Oh, yeah. And if the OP replies to the pickers, they're called over defensive and wanky.

Hm. On the other hand, the Pens just went seven games against one of the fastest teams in the league, after a bruisingly physical series against the Caps - I honestly expected them to be flagging more than they are, especially with Daley out.

Could Pittsburgh's youth be helping them out here? Or conditioning? Letang is notorious for endurance, Kessel was one of the fittest guys in Toronto and Sid apparently lifts weights after games. (Which WHAT?) In the same way Duncan Keith's endurance is crucial for the Blackhawks, I wonder if it's contributing to the Penguins' edge here. Thornton and Marleau haven't lost much in the way of skill, but I'd expect a long season (longest season they've ever had) to weigh on them more than 23 year olds.

I scroll past a lot of things on this meme that fall under "not worth engaging with the angry," including vents that I don't agree with. I also think that there's a difference between saying something if someone's being factually incorrect ("x player disappeared in the playoffs!"/"x player scored 3 goals", though many times those also fall under "not worth engaging with the angry) and nitpicking someone to death because they expressed feelings you don't like.

Some people on this meme seem to think that anyone who feels differently than they do shouldn't say something unless it's a formal essay with firm appeals to pathos, logos, and ethos that is completely fair to any opposing teams mentioned in the vent. And their method of trying to shut up/shut down the non-objective venters through picking is tedious and transparent.

Great question. I found an article from 2011: http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/hockey/globe-on-hockey/how-the-conn-smythe-voting-shakes-down/article615167/
"It's generally three voters per representative city in the final [...] and then the rest of the votes are divided among writers who have covered most or all of the playoffs up to that point."

OP I'm going to close voting tonight around 10pm ET, so if you have any last minute votes to get in, do it before the cut off!

Re: Fandom Venting

As long as there are people who are wrong on the Internet there will be nitpicking in the venting thread.

Re: Fandom Venting

From: (Anonymous)
*as long as there's people who fail to understand that their righteous anger at incorrect vents has little to no influence on the feelings or opinions of others there will be nitpicking in the venting thread

Too true.

Re: What is up with your team? –– non-SCF edition

Honestly, though, Max Domi is from South Western Ontario, where we still get multiple days over 100F plus humidity factor. At least the air in AZ is dry, so what the thermometer says is what you get temperature ways.

Re: What is up with your team? –– non-SCF edition

From: (Anonymous)
Having a type of weather for multiple days is different from having a type of weather for months on end.

Re: What is up with your team? –– non-SCF edition

From: (Anonymous)
They're also not really comparable. I was on a kick reading about people getting lost in the desert and there were a lot of people from the South who were used to 100+ summers with humidity completely unprepared for the desert at the same temperatures.

I do think he's going to be fine, though.

I'd suspect depth, especially at forward, rather than conditioning. The Sharks' offense is basically their top 2 lines, and DeBoer has frequently shortened his bench and spent a lot of time playing 10 or even 9 forwards. Meanwhile, a lot of the Pens' top forwards are getting less TOI than they're used to or capable of playing. Looking at Game 4 TOI, Crosby has 21:04 (leads Pens forwards), Malkin 14:23, and Kessel 15:08, compared to Thornton 24:01, Pavelski 24:54 (leads Sharks forwards), Marleau 16:28. Malkin and Kessel got less TOI than anyone in the Sharks' top 6. I think you can really see the reduced usage help the Pens in OT this year.

I've heard that generally just means whoever is in the press box, and if there's not enough ballots they work it out among themselves.

I think the reason for Matt and Ryan being two of the most frequently seen names is that those names were extremely popular in Canada (at least, my neck of the woods in Canada) in the early 90s. Like, my tiny elementary school class had two Ryans (and FIVE Michaels, but that's besides the point here).

Re: Eyebrow Bracket - Finals!

I just voted. It is literally 50/50 now.

Re: What is up with your team? –– non-SCF edition

I promise you it's not nearly the same thing.

Re: What is up with your team? –– non-SCF edition

From: (Anonymous)
That's interesting, why is that? You'd think the dryness would be easier to deal with than the humidity since there's less risk of dehydration and heat stroke (at the same temperature). Is it just really unpleasant?

Lol, thank you.
