It wasn't Letang as the robot, but he's a tech-in-training. Iginla is the bot.

I assumed they meant this one, where he is a robot.

AFAIK yes! That will be awesome. Even my most humble wish is for one of the many amazing rookie Finns to become a finalist. More than one of them? Omg, amazing.

Yeah pretty much this. When I see he does something stupid on the ice I'm like 'come on Tanger' and when he does something dangerous, I call him an idiot, but he is good at his job.

And yes, his negative chill when someone insults a teammate (and him being willing to show this negative chill on instagram), his adorable kid and his beautiful wife are all plus points to him as well.

Re: Fandom Venting

Why would his beautiful wife be a plus point to him?

Patrik Laine admitted earlier in the tournament that his favourite player is Alex Ovechkin and after getting hit by the Russian during their semi-final, Laine joked that he would never wash his jersey.

I'm looking forward to some potential Laine/Ovi next season! Media are probably going to hype up their match ups.

Wasn't she a reality show star/personality? Also, for the same reason that TJ Oshie's wife is a plus to him - beautiful, media savvy, etc. People like beautiful families with adorable children.

I'd add that love of Letang seems to coincide with love the of the core and their friendship, particularly the Crosby-Letang-Flower trifecta. There is a goldmine of friendship material for them and they all really love each other. It's easy to love Letang when you know how much (and how loudly) Crosby and Fleury love him.

I'm also a huge fan of his personality and I think he's not so secretly a giant dork. His hotheadedness can be a double-edged sword but I think it's a) not as uncommon or unique to Letang as people portray it as and b) is more justifiable than even Neal's crap was. Neal used to just get angry and hurt people. Letang is almost always going after someone who messed with the goalie, or Maatta, or Dumoulin.

What's the difference between losing your temper and slashing someone, which happens a billion times a game on every team, and crosschecking them in a scrum because they pissed you off? One just gets more attention. I don't think he loses his cool more than any other hotheaded hockey players, but because he has a reputation for it it gets talked about a lot. See how Crosby is still the only captain int he history of the NHL who ever whines to the refs.

Yes, she was, although I don't know how much that is or isn't common knowledge. She's also very generous in sharing photos of her family and from her own daily life (and occasionally even interacting with fans -- she answered a fan's question asking after her hair stylist, lol) and comes across as extremely likable on her public social media.

What I don't want to see happen today, McDavid muilt points game. If you keep McDavid off the score sheet US, I don't care how bad you end up losing. Just don't want to deal with the media going how clutch he is.

I'm rooting for Finland to win since I've lived there for a while so I'm dancing with you. :D

Ayrt

Partly because I'm shallow and she takes gorgeous pictures. But I also love her instagram and I wouldn't have known about it if she hadn't been with him.

I had never read seen that before. That was cute! Thanks for linking.

Re: Fandom Venting

From: (Anonymous)
Mte, yeah she's beautiful and his kid is cute but that has nothing to do with Letang's behavior and it certainly won't make me dislike him less.

Re: Fandom Venting

From: (Anonymous)
No one's mentioning his family as something that excuses his bad behavior or as a reason you can't dislike him. The question is why he's so popular, and it's not rocket science to understand why fans would be drawn to a player with a nice family who posts their photos all over social media and have cute interactions with other players (also fan favorites) and their families. It fosters personal investment, in the same way that players with a lot of public "personality" do.

I'm going to laugh so hard if the USA beat Canada.

Do you happen to be a Colorado fan?

Re: Worlds

From: (Anonymous)
There's no one on team Canada I love this year, so go team underdogs!

Re: Worlds

From: (Anonymous)
Well, damn. I was hoping the US would pull off a last minute goal and then win it in overtime, but I'm really happy with the way they looked in the last period. And there's still the possibility they medal and it was a one goal game instead of a blowout!

And now I can root for Finland to win gold. Go Finland!

Re: Worlds

From: (Anonymous)
I was really surprised by how good they looked in periods 2 & 3, good luck in the bronze medal game!

Re: All Access - Quest for the Stanley Cup

From: (Anonymous)
I really could have done without seeing either the hit on Letang or Ben Bishop's injury from the first game of the series. At the very least they didn't actually have the sound of Bishop yelling though. That yell made me nauseous when I heard it when it happened.

Matt Cullen with his kids was cute.

Probably the best part of the whole thing was finding a new song I liked that I've never heard before.

I knew this already but man do hockey players/coaches say "boys" way too much.

Re: Fic discussion

I appreciated the effort, and I enjoyed the ensemble aspects, but it could have used a beta to cut out a lot of the verbiage. I'm also really picky about how Phil gets portrayed in terms of possible insecurities, and this one didn't really work for me on that front - a bit too woobie.
