It was an example, not a contest.

It sure feels like Pens fans are trying to make it a contest.

Thank you!! The JSchultz story fits nicely into the half-written-maybe-I'll-write-some-tonight JSchultz kinkmeme fill I'm writing where Phil and Justin bond over coming from Canadian markets where people said mean things about them.

I know PKane is meme verboten but I do love the story about Kane and Sharp and their man-crushes on Phil in Sochi.

And uh. I guess recycling is important?? That makes me laugh.

Blood kink? Violence? I feel like it's a fairly common kink that I've run across fairly often, but I then usually run in the opposite direction since one of those weirdos who's really into everything kinky... that doesn't hurt.

Certain parts of this original fic series might be a good place to test out your newfound kink, though- or maybe not, since I liked it and it's Not My Kink, and IDK what your other DNWs are. It's noire-y mob fic, lots of rent boys with bosses and tough guys exerting their will. It really is good, tags well, but tread carefully.

I'm not sure I even know what overdetermined means in this context and yet it seems like exactly the right word. I think my favorite part of the Good Dude series is that apparently the good people in sports are so overwhelmingly male that there's absolutely no need to call it the Good Human series or something instead.

Or maybe he has profiled a woman at some point, I don't actually keep track, but even so.

It was a shitty example.

Jake could not have gone to the OHL at 16 and been on the USNTDP. Unless she doesn't realize, yep.

Do you watch the show Daredevil? Not porn per se but the fight scenes and their aftermath definitely does things for me.

That sounds so sweet!! I love how happy JSchultz seems playing for the Pens.

In case you'd care for it, here's the Kane quote. It's not much: "Phil’s a good man. It’s too bad people don’t give him the credit he deserves. He’d do anything for you." Obviously there can't be a moratorium on reporting about Kane, but it annoyed me here because its inclusion in the column is so random, and seemed to automatically assume we all care (or should care) about what Kane thinks. ("You should hear Patrick Kane talk about him," says Yohe.) And the quote just isn't that interesting.

And man. Yohe wonders why people hate Crosby and then he writes drivel like that. Sid saving the earth!!

No idea. "Fetishizing his hands in pocket thing is thataway" I read, but do not comprehend.

I would love to read that!

JSchultz had a super cute quote last night about how it's almost summer and he's still playing hockey and that hasn't happened in a while. As primarily an Oilers fan who comes by her Pens fandom because of Geno I'm honestly just so glad that JSchultz is happier. It was So. Bad. at the end in Edmonton and so many fans are still so sour on him. I'm just glad he's out of that environment.

I feel like more than anything it's like an earth shatteringly boring PKane quote. Like there's an entire story about his epic crush on Phil. And that's the quote you end up with??

Chris Johnson did a podcast with Wysh earlier his week and in about a minute and a half HE had way better stories than that about Sid. My god. (That said. I might be bias. I do love me some Chris Johnson)

Yeah, lol. What I meant by "overdetermined" is that Yohe takes these vaguely nice but utterly trivial and unremarkable anecdotes (not even anecdotes in a lot of cases) and uses them as ~proof that someone is a good person. It's annoying because a lot of it is the kind of thing I live for in my hockey media -- I want all the stories about Crosby taking rookies out for dinner or JSchultz saying adoring things about Kessel -- but Yohe making them out to be So Important is eye-rolling.

It is really remarkable how DK and Yohe both manage to talk about things that I would like to hear about in a way that drives me completely up the wall. It's a talent (and also part of why I don't subscribe anymore).

I'm so glad there are Oilers fans (or at least one) who likes him!! He seems so sweet, and it makes me saying when fans have so much vitriol for players who just aren't good (or aren't playing well).

Ha! Well, Yohe said he got the quote in January (presumably when the Pens played the Hawks). But yeah, it's just... why go out of your way to mention PKane for the sake of such an incredibly boring quote?

Ahhh, do you remember any of the specific stories? I'd love to know if it's anything new!

He seems so happy to be here, where he's getting a clearly defined role and not too many minutes. He talks about being so much more confident and about people having confidence in him, and just, that poor dude. And now with Daley out, he's getting some time on the top power play unit!

I know he had a lot of bad performances up in Edmonton, but I hope getting more instruction and under more realistic expectations, he'll turn out to be a good fit for us. At the very least he seems to be higher up the totem pole than Pouliot, however the crap that happened.

I realize crippling insecurity and self-esteem issues are a popular fanon aspect of Tyler Seguin, but I guess I'm over it. I wish this fic had gone in a different direction. I really liked the "can't tell a lie" premise and the verbal diarrhea aspect. I just would have liked it if Tyler's inner monologue had turned out to be more complex.

Re: SCF Predictions Thread

I'm kind of not surprised that he and Phil bonded because Justin is also super shy. His early interviews with the Oilers were PAIIIIIINFUL. He just couldn't talk about himself, or answer questions with any more than 2 word answers. And the Oilers media didn't do him any favors either [Toronto-style]. As far as fans - I had to mute like half my twitter because there were so many Oilers fans who are like "Justin Schultz doesn't deserve this, wank, wank, wank"

Chris and Wysh were basically talking about whether or not Sid knows about all the "narrative" that surrounds him as far as all the horrible articles everyone wrote when the Pens were down 3-2 and I guess Chris knows Sid a little and just talked about how smart and well-read Sid is and of course he knows what people write about him, but so much of it is crazy off-base [especially within the Pittsburgh media]. Then he talked about when you get him out of his Captain of the Pittsburgh Penguins element he has a lot of opinions on politics and can basically talk about anything you want to talk about. I just thought it was really interesting because Sid's pretty careful about not going off message too far and it's nice to hear that he has untold depths?? That's a little too far probably, but just nice to hear something past the usual Sid-cliches.

I enjoy Yohe's perspective [although the Trib writers are getting better again - Bill West I really like] but DK is like Rossi without Rossi's writing ability. And I don't often agree with Rossi - but the man can write. DK I feel like is just as inflammatory and off-base as Rossi and then can't back it up with good writing.

And I wish they would all get off the noted-misogynist Mark Madden train.

Re: SCF Predictions Thread

Yeah, Bill West is great. And Bombulie doesn't as often say things I find interesting, but I don't mind him, either.

We're going to have to disagree about Rossi, though. He can be saying something I completely agree with and I still find his writing to be really bad. It reads to me like how an emo teenager thinks sports columns are written.

I know it's not likely, but I hope deep in my heart that Sid is a rabid Trudeau fanboy or is secretly super into US politics and sneaks into Bernie rallies undercover or something.
