I'm also fond of short guys! Somehow I really like the fact that Nathan Gerbe is the same height as me which I find charming for some reason, lol.

I think we have very different definitions of yenta, going by that phone call. Geno's dialogue doesn't throw me out of the story, but it might for you.

I don't see Sid being afraid, just closeted?

The other two definitely happened, but it's tropey stuff anyway.

It's definitely old-school S/G.

AYRT

I think maybe it's because a lot of the little guys seem to have to work harder to make it? Or I just really like guys who are pocket-sized by hockey standards, haha. I find Nathan Gerbe's tininess totally charming, too!

I like you, you can stay:
Alex Ovechkin
Ben Bishop
Florence Schelling
Anze Kopitar
Zdeno Chara
Wayne Simmonds
Steve Stamkos
Marie-Philip Poulin
T.J. Oshie

I wish you'd "win" a one way ticket to Pluto:
Amanda Kessel, Phil Kessel, hell I'll even toss Other Kessel on the list because why not?
Noora Raty
Dustin Brown
Jonathan Toews
Duncan Keith
Letang
Tara Watchorn

I've got a clear #1 and #2 NHL team, and then four others I like. The rest I have vaguely more positive to negative feelings about, and those can change quickly.

In my countries highest league, I love my team and all the others are obviously terrible and evil.

It wouldn't have taken three season if he hadn't been so stupidly reckless with his own life in the first place ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

And people who jump it to say, "No, actually, my team is great!!!" have literally always told to fuck off. Because they're annoying. Just like their teams.

ayrt

Perhaps. I feel oddly guilty because I enjoy it when people read what I write and get an extra bump of happy if I get a kudos or even a comment and I haven't returned the favor in kind in a couple years.

I think what's rubbing everyone the wrong way is the way this is being treated as being a uniquely horrible event, instead of something that is affecting Penguins fans particularly.

How is it being treated as uniquely horrible?

Actually the recklessness had very little if anything to do with the protractedness of his various medical conditions, but ok.

da

What comes to mind is the Masterton nomination thread with a bunch of Pens fans being all "of course Duper should get it/will get it/how very dare you consider anyone else as worthy!"

Except 1. That isn't what the comments in this part of the thread are responding to so maybe parent up before making an ass of yourself, and 2. Someone upthread just mentioned an example where that didn't happen so.

I very strongly doubt you have the empathy to understand how a non-Pens fan feels about it.

They're just salty about the Letang snub last year. Most of them who are aware of/reminded of what happened to Zuccarello think he's just as if not more deserving than Dupuis.

Re: Fandom Venting

(Anonymous) 2016-05-30 07:08 pm (UTC)(link)
It has everything to do with how much he should just have retired instead.

When Mats Zuccarello is another nominee.

Yes, ayrt is the one lacking empathy, in a thread where a player not being able to play without risking death is not "genuinely sad" because he's old and has a cup and it happens to everyone, it's very very common!!! so how dare you be sad about it, cry me a river.

(frozen comment) Re: Fandom Venting

(Anonymous) 2016-05-30 07:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it has less to do with empathy and more to do with complete cluelessness with a healthy dose of no one's pain is as painful as my pain.

(frozen comment) Re: Fandom Venting

(Anonymous) 2016-05-30 07:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh come on. This is why any discussion about the Pens or Pens fandom devolves into absurdity. Nobody said you couldn't be sad about it!!! Just that the rest of us are tired of hearing about it! Don't make it more dramatic than it has to be.

Re: Fandom Venting

(Anonymous) 2016-05-30 07:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Dupuis' career was going to end soon anyways. It's ridiculous to pretend that it wasn't. I understand that he struggled with trying to play despite the clots and it was a lot for him to go through, but every year there are guys who have to make the tough decision about longterm health vs. continuing to play.

Re: Fandom Venting

(Anonymous) 2016-05-30 07:21 pm (UTC)(link)
He made a reckless decision to play with the clot before reporting it. At that point it wasn't clear that he would never be able to play again, when other players have been somewhat successful in coming back. He waited it out, came back, and retired shortly after. It was obvious he was struggling in the end, but if he were less reckless about it, he would have retired, what, a month earlier? Up until that point, there wasn't a reason to think he couldn't at least give it a go.

Have you read the thread? People literally said it wasn't "genuinely sad" and that people who were sad could cry a river because Dupuis is old and has a cup. If OP is sick of hearing it they should mute or unfollow those Pens fans on Twitter.

On my 'fond' list is all the Danes; a bunch of goalies; Subban, Gallagher and actually a lot of the Habs from watching their media stuff; PEB; Jagr; and some of the young Swedes and Finns.

On my 'love to hate' list is Backes and Marchand. On my 'genuinely wish you'd disappear forever' list is Kane, Shaw and Perry.

Not a Pens fan, and I think it's perfectly understandable why they are sad about it and more so than if the same thing happend to someone not on their team?

(frozen comment) Re: Fandom Venting

(Anonymous) 2016-05-30 07:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I did read the thread, and saw plenty of people acknowledging that it was sad for Pens fans. I don't think you understand that it's not just OP who is tired of this. I don't even have a twitter, I avoid Pens fans on tumblr and I still feel like exposure limit to "IS ANYBODY ELSE EMO BECAUSE OF DUPUIS" is maxed out. I'm sorry if you feel like people are being dismissive but I think venting in the venting thread about it is legitimate.
