I think so. It was more of a joke about his son's name since I couldn't remember what her name was this morning.

Bailey is his wife's name. Unless the daughter is a jr/II? I hadn't heard that for sure though.

I googled "Shea Weber daughter" even though I knew nothing was gonna come up, and one of the results was a story on a "Hockey Fanfiction" blog- "Shea Weber - For Better or Worse (Requested) a/n: so this is the 'comfort daughter about dog' request."

Just... what?

For Better or Worse is a comic strip. The dog died at one point. This was very tragic for people who had read the strip since they were kids (unusually, the characters age in somewhat real time in this strip and have for years). It was kind of a controversy about how dare the author kill off such a beloved character (especially since she brought on a new replacement puppy).

I am guessing someone prompted Shea Weber having to comfort his daughter about having read this comic strip, and someone actually wrote them a story.

I was perversely curious, so I clicked. It's one of those "You/player" stories, and the dog that dies is an Original Female Dog to the best of my knowledge (neither the comics one or one of Shea's RL dogs). It's not great literature or anything, but I was amused by the POV character teasing Shea about being partly in it for his dog at the beginning and the actual death was handled pretty well imo (family discussion before and cuddles after, everybody including the daughter was there for the actual euthanasia procedure) and it even managed to have something that felt like an ending.

Original Female Dog, that's the type of original character in fic I can get behind.

I like dogs, but not self-inserts?

As long as it doesn't turn out like the OMD in Supernatural fandom.

OMD in SPN fandom came about because people were tired of writing bestiality with the actor's actual dogs (or they died? Idk) so they starting using original male dogs to spice up their dogfucking.

Oh my godddddd D:! Every time someone fills me in on SPN fandom history I am so glad I never experienced it for myself.

For the record not what I was implying when I said I wanted more original dogs lol.

SPN fandom was an absolute joy of bizarre depravity. I'm not into bestiality, but there were a lot of other kinks (narrative and sexual) that SPN catered to like no other fandom I've been in, and I think it's largely because there just was no such thing as good taste. It was great.

I've heard others express similar sentiments, but my fic tastes are basic and vanilla as fuck so I've never really felt like I missing out.

I was never in SPN fandom, but everything I've heard about reminds me of the darker sides of HP. I mean, HP is the fandom where I once read a fic where underage Harry Potter contracted lycanthropy because he let Moony fuck him as a wolf.

(Uh, I feel I should clarify that I read this fic for the same reason I read that one where Lucius Malfoy literally skullfucked somebody: because it was being linked everywhere and trainwreck syndrome.)

No, people complained that it was wrong to portray a real life nice human/dog relationship as abusive. That's why people started using OMDs.
