#24 – Not Sure If Serious or Playing Dumba

This is the twenty-fourth post of Deke Dangle RPF Anon, a community for all your ice hockey anon meme needs.

THE RULES

I like it, but "black ace" already means something in hockey - it's the guys who get called up to hang around in the latter rounds of a cup run.

NAYRT but that would be exactly why I'd love it, even though there's no way they'd actually be the scrappy underdogs/odds and ends roster that name might imply.

Also would require hockey to have a sense of humor, so...

The best players on the team would be the rest of the league's fourth defenseman and backup goalies, to say nothing of the leftovers at forward. I'd think that would qualify them for scrappy underdog status.

Don't forget old and overpayed vets to bring them up to the salary floor!

They don't have to make the floor in their first two years, is my understanding. Just 60 percent of the cap.

Are we just about the first two years? Any expansion team is going to be spare parts and expensive vets for longer than that.

Yep. That's why I like it. Because with the expansion draft you're basically assembling a team of Black Aces just from all the NHL teams instead of AHL affiliates.
