Shipping by trade or signing - What is your prediction for possible pairing that will appear for next season? Or one you're hoping for.

Mostly I'm hoping for the 2015 Draft Class kids to find their forever ~~homes~~ pairing partners. I like them all a lot, PWPs with each other are fun, but I can't really get into fics about them building an Actual Relationship when I know they're practically never going to see each other.

I'm curious about that, too! I wonder if authors will settle on (mostly) one guy to ship McDavid with eventually, lol.

But otoh I'd actually really like a long fic dealing with just that ldr drama between them, lol. Or future fic where they're traded to the same team.
I used to not care about them at all but I've become kind of attached now.

I would read Eichel/Reinhart but I can't actually think of anyone on the Oilers I would ship McDavid with. I think in my mind he isn't quite a part of that "kid line" group yet with all of their history, and it seems like one of them might get traded soon anyways. Maybe he'll get a cute new rookie next season to mentor/make out with.

How about Draisaitl? Although I admittedly don't know much about him besides his nationality, enjoying his hockey, and finding him attractive.

Yeah, that seems like an option. I read that one fic about them recently but my next to 0 knowledge of Draisaitl wasn't enough to make me actually ship it, you know? Maybe if somebody convinced me *eyes emoji*

I'd read Dylan Strome with Nick Merkley: Alex DeBrincat 2.0, since I don't want to break up the Killer D family.

What makes him Alex DeBrincat 2.0? I have to admit I know nothing about him.

Hah, for some reason this made me think of that tweet showing how 5 of the top 6 picks in 2011 have all been traded. And Hall may very well be soon.

I thought McEichel really would be the next big thing, but it petered out and died and I'm not totally sure why.

Is there a pairing with a lot of personal history? I'd say the Sharks would have a good shot of becoming popular if they won the Cup, given their core has been together a while, except they're all married and their games are mostly on PST.

There was a lot of it in the last exchange, though. I feel like there's been less fic posted lately in general, but more OFC or player/reader fic to scroll past.

I think that it's just that the most active writers nowadays usually stick to exchanges/fests, which make those fun, but leave the in-between times painfully barren.

I mean, I'm one of those writers, but I also just feel like the fan activity around them on tumblr/twitter pretty much died out. I guess it's like the other nonny said, they aren't really a forever pairing.

I think between McDavid getting hurt, their "rivalry" never quite translating on the ice or elsewhere, and the Calder race not being a close competition between these two like expected are all reasons, here.

Tbh I still think Eichel would have deserved the Calder nomination over McDavid, but oh well.

Yeah, once the World Cup is over that's probably it for them. Maybe those Strome to EDM rumors are real...

That wouldn't make sense Arizona need a #1C and EDM have enough center. Why would they even trade?

I would imagine the World Cup might change things, especially if they end up on the same power play unit or line.

Where the fuck did the /reader stuff even come from? Did the Wattpad people suddenly decide to convert to AO3?

This is the only explanation I can think of, but it doesn't make much sense.
