Could this be the Mariles fic someone was messaging Dangle on tumblr about?

Almost certainly.

I peaced out at the first instance of grabby hands, but I'm sure the people will like it.

The pairing intrigues me for sure. I'm always interested in more journeyman fic and TJ Brennan's team history is almost shocking. In the last three years: He was a Sabres prospect who was traded to Panthers, Panthers traded him to Predators at the end of the season. Predators didn't qualify him and he became a FA, then signed with Maple Leafs for a year. Became a FA again, then signed with the Islanders, who traded him out of training camp to the Blackhawks who traded him back to the Maple Leafs. So Sabres to Panthers to Predators (on paper) to Maple Leafs to Islanders (pre-season only) to Blackhawks to Maple Leafs, and poor guy has a combined NHL total of gp that's still less than a full season.

I'm not in the mood for digging into this at the moment, but I did like the one teen Wolf fic of theirs that I remember reading, so I'm reasonably confident it'll be good, story-wise. Remains to be seen if it's any good in terms of hockey details or professional athlete verisimilitude.

I'm pretty sure the author is a Marlies season ticket holder or at least goes to a lot of games so hockey details will probably be fine. Athlete verisimilitude as always being a toss up though.

Now DA is worried about too much play-by-play.

There is never enough play by play. What do you mean?

That is a fallacy and the logic behind every shitty behind-the-scenes special the NHL puts out nowadays.

+1 It's fucking clickbait by the NHL at this point.

It took me too long (a few paragraphs) to realize that this is one of those fics that continually refers to the main character by last name only even in his own POV, which is among my top fic pet peeves! Sorry author, but I can't believe that TJ Brennan calls himself "Brennan" in his own head enough to keep reading :/

That's what kicked me out too.

Also, I remembered that author's TW fic and it was full of nonsense, so I was all out benefit of the doubt before I really got started anyway.

Yeah I tried to push through but I got to the scene where he's meeting with whoever from the Marlies, who is calling him TJ, because that is his name, and it was still "Brennan thought". Ugh. It wasn't great in general though so I don't feel too bereft.

omg, so much this. If only I had that word-replacing browser extension handy maybe I'd push through, but nope.

It's a bit slow at first but it was OK towards the end.

It just felt like there were too many details that weren't really adding to the story and one sub- plot too many, for me anyway.
