I think for most people it is just a trope, but there are definitely some fans who believe 100% Seguin is not straight and was trying to come out with that tweet.

I thought the queer Seguin tinhatting had died down, but it seems to be making a comeback on Tumblr, and Linksy's replies to the comments on her fic make me think it's not just a trope for her either.

l~ol~~~~

Anytime an author feel compelled to write about how un-original their story idea ~might be I want to be like, hey it's obvious you know it's unoriginal and yet you chose to post it anyway, you aren't fooling anyone!

But of course there's a bunch of people loving this paint-by-numbers cowering under homophobia fic with bonus true lurv and a on-the-nose tie in to the original tweet, so maybe the real fool is me.

The whole, "How could anyone have thought otherwise?!? So confusing," thing is also very telling.

Just look at how much Hank yells at refs now.

The tinhatting definitely exists outside of it being a fic trope. Because I've seen this idea (and other dubious tinhat theories) what feels like a million times, even though I don't go Seguin fic with a ten foot pole. (And as a trope, it's still gross.)

Does anyone know if the games will be available to watch online anywhere? I know I read they would be streaming but I live in Europe and the live timings don't work for me so I'll need to watch on catch up.

WHY am I reading the comments, christ. The one about the casino night isn't even accurate! He said "three of a kind", read: "teehee threesomes".

I'm so over people and their blind stanning. At least no one's brought up his ~mannerisms yet.

Maybe I live in a weird bubble within this fandom, but I can't remember ever seeing tinhatty comments on a fic like that before. It's a fanfiction, not some kind of thesis statement on why Seguin is gay.

Re: Fandom Venting

(Anonymous) 2016-09-06 05:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I mean, also judging from the comments, I think the author meant for it to be a bit of a tinhat thesis statement.

Re: Fandom Venting

(Anonymous) 2016-09-06 05:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I found that really weird, especially because it's not a very good fic. It's not terrible or anything, but I feel like we've seen the exact same thing done better a bunch of times. Did Linsky promote it somewhere or something? Where are all of these commenters coming from?

I only glanced at the comments, but I'm already loling at the first one: I never really understood how that tweet made him homophobic, maybe I'm missing something? And Linsky's response: Right??? He was saying literally nothing bad about queer people. HE WAS SAYING HE WAS ONE. Just...wow.

TBF, I probably would have filed Linsky as something of a ~fandom BNF~ before I blacklisted her from my awareness, so that probably contributes to the OTT praise.

I'm not really into poetry but I enjoyed the anecdotal part in the first half.

I suppose it makes those secret writer fics more plausible.

I think she's top of the K/T totem pole at this point, so I imagine that's where a lot of it is coming from, yeah.

There's a separate hockey primer comm, too, although there's nothing there yet:

As does the second half of this verse.

Initiation, I won’t go there
I’ll keep that inside with pride
But holy shit
If the public knew what happened
On those long bus rides…

Re: Fandom Venting

I don't think it's that fandom is prone to confusing fic with reality/tinhattting, it's that this particular fic (I gather from this thread) plays into a tinhat theory that already exists widely among a certain group of fans. I can't judge the author's mindset, but it wouldn't surprise me if anon who said the author kinda meant it to be a little bit of a "thesis statement" was right, either.

What does 10/11 even mean?

Re: World Cup of Hockey

(Anonymous) 2016-09-06 06:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Apparently Grubauer is in for him.

I know it's unrealistic, but I want Team Europe to win or at least do well so very badly. I'd be beyond happy.

Re: World Cup of Hockey

Heard Bill Daly on the radio. The preliminary rounds are going to have 3-on-3 OT for five minutes followed by a shootout like the regular season. The elimination rounds are going to have playoff NHL rules of full OT until someone scores.

Re: World Cup of Hockey

(Anonymous) 2016-09-06 06:05 pm (UTC)(link)
It means if you bet 11 dollars on Canada and Canada wins, you win 10 dollars (plus you get your 11 back). Whereas if you bet that same 11 dollars on Europe at 33/1 and Europe wins, you win 363 dollars. Gambling odds =/= statistical odds.

I don't think it's that unrealistic ... Kopitar, Hossa, Zuccarello, Draisaitl, Chara, Josi. It's not a team of scrubs.

10/11 canadian geese questioned agree that canada will win.

Re: World Cup of Hockey

The elimination rounds are going to have playoff NHL rules of full OT until someone scores.

My new, completely unrealistic dream for this tournament: US and Canada play each other and go to OT. Then it becomes the game that never ends. It finally ends in 6OT. I don't care who wins, I just want them all to be pissed off and exhausted.
