I mean, it's obviously good money, but it's low for ~pro-athletes or whatever. Even NFL stars still make the least out of the big 4 sports, which is questionable considering the viewership and how short their careers are on average.

The NFL player's association is probably the worst out of any sport in terms of protecting its players and their interests. This article explains some of it-https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/sports/wp/2015/03/10/ndamukong-suh-max-scherzer-and-the-difference-between-lucrative-contracts-in-the-nfl-and-mlb/ but basically NFL players are almost completely at the mercy of their team. Practically anybody can (and will) get cut, and if you get cut there's a good chance your career is over.

so i read the url as "compliment" first not "complement" and I was like woW, they must hate each other more than I thought if the possibility of a nice word is newsworthy.

So many AUs. :( I like to use exchanges like these to get to know new players, but random Maze Runner fusions or whatever don't really do that for me.

... Not so much with stars? Top NHL salaries don't crack top fifty NFL salaries. None of that really helps, like, the last man on the totem pole if he breaks his back in practice, though.

Yeah, NFL players make way more than NHL players. I have no idea what ayrt is talking about.

Re: Ask Meme

(Anonymous) 2016-09-10 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)
With stars they're definitely wrong - there aren't NHL players making $20 million a year but I can name NFL players that are - but for everyday players they're right. Average NFL salary is $1.9 million versus the average NHL salary of $2.4 million. And the median NFL salary is even lower, less than a million.

There's also the fact that NFL salaries aren't guaranteed, which is just horrifying to me.

Nate and Jo look pretty happy about it.

DA

Yeah, basically the NFL can be great if you're a superstar, and pretty horrible if you're not. Each NFL roster has so many players that it balances out to like...a median of shittiness.

They just introduced Brent Burns as Jeff Carter. Oops.

How.

Well other than being ESPN and not caring

It was the guy in the arena, before the anthems, I guess he had the wrong list. The camera just stayed in front of Burns until he read the right name.

I was thinking more of star players, since those are the ones you actually hear about retiring. Marshawn Lynch is the most recent example to come to mind - he's only 30.

I can't watch the canada game, is it as rough as social media is making it out to be?

(Anonymous) 2016-09-11 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
Nah. The game started rough, but there have been too many penalties for the intensity to ramp back up.

Re: Fandom Goggles

I'm not great with the accent either so I hope someone will come along with a better translation, but it's definitely something about a reunion (he uses the word retrouvailles which I think has ~connotations~ in French-from-France, but that may not be the same in Quebecois) and how it's fun to be on the same team, etc. etc. And then in the second bit of French he says that Mac is the more immature one out of the two of them.

Tortorella called out Pacioretty for not scoring enough. In an exhibition game. For an exhibition tournament. "He's gotta give me some reason to get him more minutes."

This is ridiculous and I don't even like Pacioretty.
