Re: Random Hockey Stuff

Most of what I'm reading (and admittedly I didn't go much beyond what was linked here.) seems to be people who have cancelled their payments and are either answering questions about why they no longer support or are offer on their experience to those considering donating.

Both of which I appreciate in the same way I appreciate when I ask deke about person x and deke responds in unison that they are a total crackpot.

Re: Hockey Media

From: (Anonymous)
Same. Also I wish there was an option so I could just pay for Pens content. I don't need to read about the Stillers or the Pirates.

Re: Random Hockey Stuff

From: (Anonymous)
Regular updates was a stretch goal for the Kickstarter, though, and those people don't have the option to take the money back.

Re: Exchanges, etc — HBB

Same. At first I thought they were sorted by pairing, but no, just turns out that there are that many ppl who wrote Bennguin. (Not saying that the pairing is bad, just...geez, are none of the thousands of other professional hockey players interesting, or something?)

Edit: never mind, I think they are. /reading comprehension fail

This seems to be a thing that happens a lot with content creators who go viral, start making money from it, and then have no idea how to cope with the demands of creative work as paid ongoing job.

Yeah, and I definitely think that those people have a right to feel ripped off and to look askance at her doing a second kickstarter when she didn't fulfill the promises of the first. It's just I think some of the complaining has gotten OTT (calling her Patreon/the second kickstarter literally fraud).

Re: Random Hockey Stuff

From: (Anonymous)
And even those people got the books and all the other stuff.

The second one isn't a scam, unless she takes the money and doesn't print any books.

Yeah, people are complaining that she is doing a kickstarter to pay to print books that she'll then in turn sell for pure profit... which, true, she doesn't need to do that... but she said straight up that that's what the money was for, the people giving her money know all that and are giving it anyways.

She should have handled things more professionally. She should have kept the funders of the first kickstarter better updated re: delays and updates. But people are acting like she's committed a goddamn crime.

Looks like teams are moving their sites to the new NHL.com layout finally. The links I care about redirect properly (schedule, roster, stats) so I don't have to change bookmarks yet.

Re: Random Hockey Stuff

Nooo, I hate the new layout.

I knew it was going to happen, but I still don't like it. >:(

oh, ugh. I haaaate the new layout. -_-

Oh man, all the whining from Backes etc about this tweet is killing me.

It's hilarious how mad some people are.

I'm just going to set my Twitter to auto retweet everything Down Goes Brown says.

It's so funny. If i didn't know what Phil said, I would think he called them out personally based on their reactions.

"Team Baby" might have to give up their nickname to their elders...

Re: Game day thread 20 September 2016

It's nice because I absolutely needed more reasons to dislike David Backes.

Anyone have a handy roundup somewhere? I don't really use twitter so I'm having trouble finding it all.

I can't actually tell if this is sarcasm or not, but same, because I always inexplicably liked him despite thinking he was a dirty player, but wow he's not had a good last few weeks in the press. "Distasteful" and "aggravating" indeed.

I mean, he does have a point with the part about that was how the team was constructed, although I strongly disagree with him that that was how the team needed to be built. Unless he meant it needed to be built that way to demonstrate that style of play isn't going to win. But I would have thought Oshie talking to the world last night about grit vs. skill would be more embarrassing or annoying to the players, even though everyone already knew Canada was a far more skilled team.

Re: Game day thread 20 September 2016

From: (Anonymous)
As somebody said on Twitter, if he gets that upset over one tweet, he's in for a rude awakening the first time he plays poorly for the Bruins.

You'd like to think so, but guys like Backes buy into the grit narrative hard. And it's not like Oshie's comment implied that USA had no skill. It was basically a super laughable way of saying "We know we're the underdogs but we can win because we have more grit/character/heart," which lol. That's how guys who know they aren't the most skilled conceive of their own value. Whereas just because a team is constructed to be gritty doesn't mean or justify leaving Kessel off it (Kane isn't exactly the most gritty player either), but Backes knows that the only reason he made the team is because of the philosophy that left Kessel off it. So he's not exactly wrong to take it personally, but lol at that petulance.
