the funny thing is that back when she didn't get any money from it (5k a month from patreon alone) the updated were more regular and the whole thing seemed more "professional" for it imo. I guess there's added pressure, but also 5k plus two very successful kickstarters

She gets 5k a month from Patreon?!

To be exact, $5,969.

I've heard (from someone railing against Ngozi on my TL no less) that Ngozi was upfront with Patreon subscribers that they could unsubscribe from the Patreon for a few months because there wouldn't be any new updates. They're all choosing to give her the money.

Most of what I'm reading (and admittedly I didn't go much beyond what was linked here.) seems to be people who have cancelled their payments and are either answering questions about why they no longer support or are offer on their experience to those considering donating.

Both of which I appreciate in the same way I appreciate when I ask deke about person x and deke responds in unison that they are a total crackpot.

Regular updates was a stretch goal for the Kickstarter, though, and those people don't have the option to take the money back.

Yeah, and I definitely think that those people have a right to feel ripped off and to look askance at her doing a second kickstarter when she didn't fulfill the promises of the first. It's just I think some of the complaining has gotten OTT (calling her Patreon/the second kickstarter literally fraud).

And even those people got the books and all the other stuff.

The second one isn't a scam, unless she takes the money and doesn't print any books.

Yeah, people are complaining that she is doing a kickstarter to pay to print books that she'll then in turn sell for pure profit... which, true, she doesn't need to do that... but she said straight up that that's what the money was for, the people giving her money know all that and are giving it anyways.

She should have handled things more professionally. She should have kept the funders of the first kickstarter better updated re: delays and updates. But people are acting like she's committed a goddamn crime.

This seems to be a thing that happens a lot with content creators who go viral, start making money from it, and then have no idea how to cope with the demands of creative work as paid ongoing job.
