This is the twenty-sixth post of Deke Dangle RPF Anon, a community for all your ice hockey anon meme needs.

THE RULES

Ok, and no one is arguing with you that it is, it's just information for people who are surprised by a format that hasn't been played in 20 years and/or are interested in the history of the tournament? It's how the WCoH originated, it's not how it's "always been."

They said on TV Tomas Tatar was the only forward on Team Europe without a point going into the game, then he ends up with two goals including the game winner.

Can somebody who read this tell me if its ok/not awful/kind factual?? Justin Schultz is the one thing I'm not really interested in fandom messing up for me and I don't recognize the author. So I'm trusting meme's opinion.

I have liked it so far, but I am a Pens nonnie, so take that with the requisite grains of salt. They've clearly paid a lot of attention to detail on the Pens side of things, at least, and they haven't demonized any Oilers players.

Justin is a miserable woobie with minimal self-esteem when he gets traded, but based on what I have been told and seen in interviews, that doesn't seem too far-fetched.

It's definitely a woobie fic. There's some (slight) demonization of the Oilers management but none of the players. I'm neither an Oilers nor a Pens fan, so I can't really speak to its character accuracy, but I don't think it's worth reading unless you're a Pens fan or super into woobie!Schultz recovering from his time in Edmonton and starting to believe in himself again.

Still think if you want "real Jack Zimmermann" go look at Kieffer Bellows (NYI first rounder 2016, playing at BU right now, son of Cup winner Brian Bellows, and I could even buy Brian as Bad Bob, so).

I don't read CP, but fandom osmosis tells me Jack Zimmerman was based on Toews? So now there is a new Hawks person who is the real life version of a fictional hockey player who was based on a Hawks person. Reality is collapsing, dogs and cats living together, mass hysteria!

That face is going to haunt my dreams.

(Although, honestly, almost all hockey (and sports) mascots look kind of freaky. I've just gotten numb to their dead eyes via repeated exposure.)

Kieffer looks even less like Zimmerman! And doesn't have any Zimmer-like traits that I'm aware of, either. At least the original guy was French and similarly weird-handsome.

I think it's the fur and leather nose that give in a particularly nightmarish quality. I don't think it would look quite as terrifying with a less quasi-realistic texture.
