Right, but I talked about what I would do (I'm here, obviously), and appealing to meme was just one of the things I would try, if I had a burning desire to write an AU where knowing another team would obviously be important? Even if I am just writing a quick game scene, I will look it up to see if the person I'm putting on the PK might realistically play on the PK. I haven't done a crossteam fic in awhile, but when I did, I looked up rosters/interviews/descriptions of previous games, etc. I'm not saying there's no way I could ever get anything wrong, but it's not like it's completely impossible to check yourself on details. Again, the person sub thread OP complained about missed info available on Wikipedia. That's not coming up against a giant dearth of information. That's not caring enough to look anything up.

I think you also have to leave room for people to disagree about teams and players, too. That's going to affect narrative and research doesn't necessarily turn up what you think it should.

I didn't watch any Team North America games, for example. My impression from deke is that Connor McDavid got way too many minutes relative to production and was fine, but not spectacular, whereas Johnny Gaudreau was an amazing star. My impression from the professional hockey pundits is that McDavid was easily the best player on the ice, yadda, yadda, yadda.

Gaborik is out for the rest of WCoH.

Well, in that case you can always check point totals and TOI, but mainstream media right now is for the most part very biased to McDavid.

Are you the OP? Copying a small subsection of a comment I already read that does not answer my question is not helpful. If you're trying to indicate that you're annoyed by both the commenter and the author, that's great, but it still only gets at some of what I was asking.

You could check those things, but a lot of people would argue that point totals and TOI do not actually tell you who the best forwards in a specific set of games are. That people disagree about these things, so that even someone who knows a lot about a specific team might not be getting details "wrong" so much as they just have a different viewpoint than yours.

I have never wanted to curse more in all my life. He was looking so good!

Is he a lynx? He just looks like a lynx to me. I'm not seeing the terrifying. Pretty normal as mascots go.

IAWTC, it's not as if meme, and meme's choice of performance metrics in this case, is unbiased either. People tend to be really conveniently selective about what "objective" stats they'll cite to ~prove their biases are correct. I've literally seen, in the same conversation, someone argue Ovechkin was better than Malkin and Crosby combined in this year's Pens-Caps series because of point totals, but Kuznetsov was also really good because of advanced stats, his linemates just couldn't finish.

I think it's slightly more realistic than normal, but they did a lot of testing and kids loved it. It sounds like it's partially a community outreach replacement for the Octane Girls, which I think is great.

I haven't read too many stories where assessing someone's individual performance in x games was really that important though? I just don't see that come up. And what McDavid or another hockey player might think about it is up to artistic license.

Ayrt and there is very little time for a replacement to settle on a line and build chemistry.

OH, YEAH? Well, Corey Perry has a chance at an exclusive club in all of hockey that only Scott Niedermayer has achieved.

http://www.thehockeynews.com/news/article/corey-perry-has-rare-chance-to-join-niedermayer-in-hockey-history

In all of the history of the game, only Scott Niedermayer has won a Stanley Cup, Olympic gold medal, World Championship, World Junior Championship, Memorial Cup and Canada/World Cup title. Perry can join him if Team Canada can win three more games in the tournament.

[snip]

What Perry is on the cusp of accomplishing is something rather special. Sidney Crosby, who has won everything but a Memorial Cup, lost to Perry’s Knights in the final in 2005.

Maybe Crosby can get his Oscar doing the skating stunts for a movie about Perry's life.

I'll give more context, that might help - the fic covers a long timeline, so I'm not objecting to the author namedropping Giroux as a big cheese in the latter sections. Just the mention in 2010. (Sid asks Geno if Giroux sent him over to fight him.)

However, the commenter seemed to think that Geno made Giroux unnecessary and he shouldn't even have been included at all.

Really I'm just being petty. It's not a huge thing.

Thanks! Honestly, I'd think it was weird to ask any player if another player sent him over. That's not how fighting works.

Yeah I think if it was the flatter look of Stanley C Panther or Gnash it wouldn't be as weird. Cartoony-ness helps a lot to make them less scary.

Surprise he lasted this long.

He's had stretches of two whole healthy months in a row before. Why couldn't this be one of those stretches? Why not, oh, gods of hockey, why not?

Injured blocking a shot, took a puck to the foot, out for 8 weeks (and lbr, that's probably a minimum). Grr.

I hope he at least gets to hang out in Toronto for a bit longer and cheer on Team Europe. One of the things that I realized the other day, though probably not as close as Brassard & Hagelin were with him, Gaborik is yet another friend-teammate of Zuccarello's that got traded away from him.

I really like the realism. I think it's a pretty cool costume, even if I'm not sure what a lynx has to do with the Oilers.
